MBA and School Attended

I figure a lot of people that frequent the MT board will have an MBA. What school did you attend for business school? And for the career switchers, did the degree/school network help you get into the career of choice?

I have an MBA from Wake Forest (Babcock Graduate School of Business).
I was a JD/MBA though so I used the law school's career center.

TCU - Neeley School of Business
I was lucky enough to have a nice job with a great company going into the program, so I have not had to lean on the network. I think some schools have national networks, others are more regional. I chose TCU because it is a strong school with a very strong regional network.
I have also determined the strength of the network, along with every other thing in life, is what you make of it. You have to actively use your network to realize any value. Do not expect a great job to fall into your lap just because you are in the network. There are very few schools that have that power, and chances are, if you go to those schools, you will think you deserve a better job than you end up with. I have classmates that claim they are dissappointed in their job search results and the TCU network. The reality is, they should be dissapointed in their job searching efforts.

UT-Dallas.
I knew I wouldn't be leaving the metroplex, so felt that was the best option for the price. No career change, but it opened doors that would've otherwise been closed.
Two pieces of advice for those considering an MBA:
1. Go to a different school than your undergrad. Right or wrong, this is viewed in the business world as giving a broader perspective.
2. Get a couple of years of real business experience, even if it's very junior level, before starting. It helps to relate to your classmates and you'll get a lot more out of it.
Don't wait until you have a family/kids though. It's a time intensive thing.. As alluded to above, if you're just going for the letters next to your name it won't be worth the money.

I'm interested in the OP's topic, but in a differing light.
What's the general consensus in the value of the MBA? Obviously it depends on industry and individual circumstances, but how do most with the distinction feel it benefited them.
It's hard to poll MBA folks because you have no clue who has one. Unlike attorneys, doctors and other post-grad degrees, most MBAs don't wear that distinction on their sleeve.
I've considered applying for some time, but haven't really concluded if I would receive any benefit. (I'm 29, employed in the upstream oil & gas business and reside in Houston)

Yeah, it's a little pretentious sounding nowadays to introduce yourself like that. And it's not like it's in the same ballpark as a JD or MD. MBAs are also way more common now than 20 or 30 years ago.
I would see what background the folks up the corporate ladder have, and ask whether it's worth it.. assuming you want to stay in oil & gas. There are some excellent business schools in Houston, ones that have tracks in your industry.

LSU - E.J. Ourso College of Business Administration
Frankly, I could have gotten the same education for $1.50 in late charges at the public library.

What happened to LSU this year in the Rankings?

I don't know, funding cuts, I guess.
We raised tuition and lowered our entrance standards so that we can make more money and keep the program up.

When I applied they didn't tell me anything for about a month and a half, and then basically begged me to come as the final class was being set.

Yeah, the recruiting process is awful. I almost didn't attend because they ticked me off so many times.
My acceptance letter had a word spelled wrong.

MBA and MHA from University of Houston

Y'all have me confused now.
I was planning to start LSU in the fall, but all of the comments are making me second guess that decision.
I'm in Oil & Gas and planning to get an MBA to open some doors down the road.
I've always heard to get an advanced degree from a different school than your undergrad, but that is easier said than done. I work in the area and the only two schools for an MBA in the state that I would consider are Tulane and LSU. However, Tulane's is more expensive and is 3 years instead of 2. The cost isn't a huge factor, but an extra year isn't something I or the wife would be excited about.
I guess I should crack a GMAT book since I take it next week and haven't done anything more than one practice test.

If its a PMBA and you are going to use it to advance in the company you are currently at, then I think its a great idea. LSU MBA is not anything to sneeze at, but the flipside is that it will be impossible to get a great NYC investment banking job without solid connections.
