Well, "closer to 40 than 60" was meant to indicate "around or, more specifically, just under 50" than it was to imply "a bunch of people making under 40." I just reworded it. I wouldn't expect hardly anyone to be making under 40.

if you know for sure when law school ends you're going to be in nola and only nola, it's worth it over southern

I have read a few threads on this site and at some law discussion sites, such as lawschooldiscussion
Whatever you do, do not listen to the pollyannas at Law School Discussion. It's full of a bunch of prelaw students and 1Ls spouting secondhand nonsense and pretending to know 10x more about the legal profession than they actually do.

That being said, I'll never be one to tell someone to go get a JD, even if you don't want to practice law, because it "opens so many doors."
That's a huge myth.
I agree with this 100%. It may be true that a JD from a place like Harvard or Yale opens doors beyond the legal profession, just because you get that Ivy League name on your resume.
But an LSU or Tulane JD will only allow you to become a lawyer. It will not help you get a non-legal job in business. True, it might help you run for politics in the future, but it's a tiny % of the class that goes that route, and even they usually at least start out at law firms.

Just asking, what makes you say that, I have been there a few times and it seems to be a good resource. I am not trying to challenge you on this just asking your opinion. I am mainly using it to see what I would need to get in, and also trying to decide how to refine my study habits for the LSAT. I have also been on lawschoolnumbers site, thoughts on that.

How many of the people on lawschooldiscussion are actual attorneys? Very few. The vast majority are like you, college seniors trying to figure out where they can get in. They really have no basis to compare one school against the other. To get a more accurate picture of the legal profession you're probably better off reading above the law.

You should eventually get a disc or something from LSAC that will tell you last year's exact admissions numbers for every LSAT/GPA combination for every law school. That will be your best source.

How does one get a disc like that, and I am not in college. Got undergrad about 5 years ago have a masters in Education and some MBA work and also been working for the last 5 years in college athletics, anyway I am taking the test in June, just trying to determine if I don't get in LSU or a similar school if it is worth getting a JD and getting so much debt. Cous Cous I understand what you are saying about the site, so I am not trying to start anything just informing you of my situation.

You shouldn't go to Tulane if you can get into a better school.
You shouldn't go to LSU if you can get into a better school or if you want to practice outside of Texas and Louisiana.
You shouldn't go to to Loyola if you can get into LSU or if you want to practice outside of Louisiana and primarily New Orleans.
You shouldn't go to Southern unless you really want to become an attorney and you can't get in anywhere else, or you're a minority and can place in the top ten in your law class. Only minorities get the great jobs out of Southern.
Here in Atlanta, only Tulane counts, but it doesn't count for very much. Very few care about LSU. Very few even know about Loyola or Southern.

The whole 'law school is versatile' thing is a marketing gimmick used by schools to get your money.
B-schools use similar marketing gimmicks/myths. Schools will often tout their strong 'alumni network' as a selling point.

LA is really lucky they dont have law schools like FL and CA. Fly by night lawschools pop up all over states where your JD doesnt have to have ABA backing in order to sit for the bar.
