Worth more than money can ever buy! And real money value as well.
Especially in the little things, in the moments that matter, that are gigantic in your kids’ lives, will show up in spades, today and tomorrow. Otherwise missed with 2 parents not home / working / distracted.
I see the dividends of that sacrifice almost weekly (with now adult children).
Well done!

Retired since 2024. Wife passed away in 2023. I set my retirement up around making sure she didn’t have to work and still stay in our house if something happened to me.
My grief counselor asked me one question. “Barbara’s gone. Do you want to be the richest guy in the graveyard?” Once that statement established itself in my head, I don’t count dollars anymore. I have 9 months of living expenses in cash. Any amount extra either gets spent or goes to paying down my mortgage. Couldn’t be happier

I am very sorry. My condolences.
Yet another example that Time > Money.
You enjoy! I’m sure she is with you in spirit and maybe more!

Greed, insecurity

No financial awareness, sight line or interest in their future self / wealth.
Nil appreciation for how much wealth they are destroying, when making these choices, for their future self.
Quick gratification beats delayed gratification. Bypasses time value of money (8th wonder of world) for new car smell.

I think this is all spot on. Please teach your kids financial literacy. They don't get it in school. But will absolutely get it from our spend driven society.

Roger that.
Daughter finished college in 3 yrs (carried 1 yr credit from HS/etc). Got her 1st professional job in would-be senior year. Invested 10% of salary in 401k starting that year. Son in college and is investing significant portion of internship salary.
They were raised in the time value of money arts! Proud of both.
A little financial literacy and discipline would change our society in so many ways for the better.
