Billing time is the worst!

I particularly didn't care for being a recent college grad and having 50-60 year old CAD designers coming and asking if I had projects numbers for them to bill time to since they were about to be on unbillable.

Ok well that is a solid background. There is a huge demand for engineers right now in Oil and Gas. Don't sell yourself short on salary but as you mentioned money isn't everything.

Could you leverage this with your current job to get a slight raise? Almost like a loyalty we don’t want to lose you raise

More money is not worth the peace of mind. Follow your heart on the one.

I'll just share how i operate and make my career decisions. You need to figure out what your goals are going to be. Then it makes these decisions easy. Do you want to do more interesting work? Do you simply want to make more money, either to retire earlier, buy a nice house, vacations, etc., whatever it is. Do you want to climb the career ladder? OR do you want to make the most amount of money while optimizing time away from work?

Once you figure out these things then the decisions become easy. I have never taken a job for the money. Now i make good money, but its not always the most money i could be making. I personally value doing really interesting work, building companies, and doing high-value and intense situation work (restructuring, M&A, scaling up, etc.)

That being said, I would never, ever take a job that i turned down, simply because they raised the salary unless I thought they were just way under market. But salary has never been a primary driver of my decisions.

eta: I realize this is a luxury, to be able to make work decisions not based on money and very grateful for that.

I made a jump one time solely on salary (36% increase and I make a really good living anyways).

Worst mistake I’ve ever made in my life.

Previous poster was dead on in his entire post.

Some really good advice has been given.

If more money interest you I would take plenty of time and look around before making any commitment, you might be surprised what opportunities are out there for you and I agree that their offer seems low for a P.E. in that area of the country.

Stay.

It's worth your time at home. Believe me.
