Have some extra cash on hand at the moment, about $3000, and want to start putting it into the market. Wife and I each have 401K contributions and regular emergency savings, but figured with the extra cash can put in some aggressive plays.

I started playing around last week on Robinhood with $250 and have gotten a 45% return so far, so it's really pushing me to want to get in, but I worry it's too late to get any type of returns now that the market is starting to correct itself.

Is it a fair concern, or is there still a good bit of growth potential?

Still a lot of stocks that are well below their pre-covid highs.

And most recessions lead to a boom post recovery, so it's not too late.

Currently the market is buying the "recovery stocks" - Airlines, Cruises, vacation stocks etc.

All the stay at home stocks are having a pullback after a significant run.

My advice:
Don't "play around". Be serious about investing (which appears you may be by both of you contributing to 401k's). Typically, folks that "play" only commit a small portion to investing.

There are always stocks going up, even in a down market!
Develop a strategy and start. Yes I have been buying; and will continue to do so.

^This. There is always money to be made. The trick is figuring out which stocks to buy/sell and when to do so. I don't know enough about it to give advice, but if you figure it out, please let me know.

Oh yeah we, and especially my wife, are committed to long term retirement savings. With the inability to take an international vacation this year we are taking the money from that budget to put into the market that we can "play around with" and hopefully profit from.

Nah.

To paraphrase Warren Buffett, "The best time to start investing is 25 years ago. The second best time is today."

I'm not buying anything this week cause most everything is high with lots of stuff "overbought." I suspect that it will take a dip soon as people take profit.

I sold a lot today also.

Pigs get fat, but hogs get slaughtered.

I have tripled two accounts and my 3rd is back to January levels. It is time to hit reset and reevaluate my long term plays.
