Is it time to sell the profit on Apple?

I've been holding Apple for awhile now and have seen 128% growth equating to roughly a $14,500 profit off of an initial investment of $11,250 as of this morning (shares now worth $25,660). I'm a boring investor with a boring investment strategy and I buy and hold a lot of stocks. I know Apple isn't going anywhere and has a bright future, but that return looks ripe for selling the profit and placing it somewhere else to me. What sayeth the smarter folks on this board?

No way I sell Apple. It will continue a steady rise for years to come.

Something else would probably be Southern Company or XOM. I seem to gravitate to IT and energy stocks and my current plan is to dollar cost average XOM across the next 12-18 months, expecting to see a lot of red before there's green/black again.

I've already got both in my portfolio. Southern Company has been a winner for a long time. XOM....it's there, but it's more attractive to me than it's been in awhile at this price. I don't think I'll sell Apple for it though, the replies smacked some sense back into me.

I’d sell just to balance your portfolio if you’re not very active. Think about some of the other big tech like Microsoft, Amazon, Facebook etc if you don’t already have some

I've got a fund holding a mix with Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, FB, etc. APPL, FSLY, and NET are the only individual techs I've got currently.

I would sell calls against it and reduce your cost basis.

I'm up 405% on AAPL. Still haven't sold any.

I'm not a good person to ask since I've owned my core AAPL position for almost 20 years.

But along the way I've bought and sold AAPL shares outside of that position, as well as doing various option trades on it. If it constitutes more than 10% or so of your portfolio, you could always lighten up for risk management/weighting purposes. Just be aware that the earnings announcement is coming up on July 30 after the close (IV should tick up by a fair amount around that time = higher option premiums).

It probably won't hurt but I do not hear good things about them switching to ARM

I’ll never forget sitting at breakfast with my dad right after Apple had split and told him to throw the kitchen sink at it....

Needless to say I haven’t gotten my 10% commission advice fee yet
