What's the boards preference between index funds and ETFs?
Do you primarily make the decision based on gross expense? Any tax implications worth noting? Liquidity considerations?
Assuming the underlying assets are comparable, does it really matter which you choose?

I think you mean difference between mutual funds and ETFs.
index funds exist as either. the big difference to me is liquidity and upfront investment.
I prefer ETFs

Low cost indexed mutual funds. I prefer to DCA on a weekly basis, and fees on an ETF would eat that alive.

I prefer ETFs as that lets me buy Vanguard products at any brokerage. Also, Vanguard ETFs are a share class of the corresponding mutual fund it is a part of.
