How long does it take to hear back from the Treasury?

A few months ago, I was trying to consolidate and find out if I had any money floating out in the ether, and it looks like I have some old savings bonds from a grandparent (I presume). There were no physical copies I could get a hold of, so I filled out the form, had it notarized, etc., and sent to a Treasury office in Milwaukee.

It's been about 4 months now. I wasn't expecting a quick process, but now I'm wondering if it could take a year or two. Not a huge deal, but I'd rather have money that's mine ASAP.

I sent in a form with a small estate affidavit to get my dad's IBond paid to my mom over 4 months ago. Receipt of the mail was sent to my dad's email with a case number, but nothing since. I know their phone message says things are taking crazy amounts of time. I just haven't had time to sit on hold and follow up with a live person.

I haven't even gotten that yet. I'll just get a nice surprise....whenever, I reckon.

seems like the gubmint wanted thousands of new IRS agents to take your moneys, but federal employees responsible for returning your moneys are scarce...

I had a thread a couple of months ago asking for help redeeming some high-value Series I bonds. I ended up having to mail it to a Treasury address in Cincinatti. Their email notifying me it had arrived led me to believe it could be 4-16 weeks before I got the money.

It ended up coming in 8 days. I was shocked! Just a data point I can speak to.

Update: I just called about my case, and they told me processing time was one year.

Well, as luck would have it, I got their mailed response last night (never got an email confirmation).

Unfortunately, they're asking me for signatures of people dead for 9 and 22 years, and another that lives across the Atlantic, respectively, so I'll likely have to call the number they gave me to see if that can be resolved.

Keep calling. . .say, every 2 weeks. My dad had some bonds in his estate and was told it would take months, maybe a year. They got tired of me calling and cashed them in for me within weeks.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease.
