Their information shows over 7 million net shares have been returned. In other words, that many shorts have been covered.

Wasn’t it predicted at 18-20% were short… so roughly 100m shares

If so, that doesn’t seem like a lot.

June 9th may be the shite or get off the pot day, but who knows?

Individual shareholder numbers will be released at that point. Apes have been using the the 3.2 million shareholders number as proof that all these synthetics must exist, but the individual count isn’t all that useful without knowing how many shares they own. If I remember correctly, the math was something like 100 or so shares per individual back in March, and apes don’t believe that.

I wasn’t trying to imply it’s a lot, but it’s a significant break in trend.

This thing has done literally nothing all day… Kind of boring.

After yesterday morning, I’m kind of okay with this.

So I just signed up for the Ortex free trial and their new estimates are way higher. They’re now showing 19MM net shares returned today.

That’s nearly 20% of estimated shorts being covered today and the price has basically been flat all day.

Eta- after doing a little more digging, if we assume the returned shares were shorted, they would have been bought on Wednesday, not today. That makes sense given the rise on Wednesday likely forced some margin calls.

It’s one of those $49/mth but we charge you annually kind of things. I set like 5 reminders on my calendar for next Wednesday just to be safe.

So there are still 80% outstanding and we saw it up in the 75 range when the 20% were returning?

So Ortex is pretty cool. It’s not useful to me other than these meme situations, but it’s cool nonetheless.

22.29 million net shares have been returned today. Again, these were likely bought on Wednesday.

Yeah, but that’s a dangerous way to view things. Shorts could have covered yesterday and today as well. Also, there were 766 million shares traded Wednesday, so these are just a drop in the bucket. My belief has always been it’s mostly retail driving the price, not the squeeze itself, and the data on GME, for example, backs that up IMO.

One thing is for sure - Trey’s Trades and his ilk are completely full of shite. All of that “this isn’t the squeeze because the Ortex data shows net increases in borrowing” is a crock of shite. The returned shares data would lag short covering by 2 days because of settlement times.

Cumulative.

Latest data says 25.33MM returned, 2.51MM borrowed, so a net of 22.82MM returned.

So you’re saying its a self fulfilling prophecy and isn’t really the brokers covering themselves driving up the price?

I’m sayingretail/longs have to get it going first, then the squeeze happens. I think we all believe that. However, if you look at GME, for example, 60% of shorts had covered before all the retail restrictions were even added. If you break it down further, over 45% had covered before the stock broke $150. By that point it was a small amount of short covering and a shite ton of retail swapping with other retail. That’s why the ape myth is so important - if you don’t convince others to buy you’re in deep shite. There simply aren’t enough shorts to buy your shares.

Glad today has been very calm. Been on a road trip all morning and afternoon taking the family on vacation. If this thing was blowing up, i wouldn't be able to put my phone down.

Right at 30MM net shares have been returned today. Estimated short shares is down to sub-70MM. Pretty substantial changes. The shorts were clearly burned Wednesday.
