I am very satisfied with Vanguard. If I can't take care of my business on line, my account rep is usually very helpful.

Yep! Can't wait to roll out of my 401k into another brokerage.

But I called and talked to them directly about it 2 weeks ago and they defiantly want a physical check mailed to them from the other company the account is with.
I have never had that happen with Vanguard. There were instances of having to sell investments held in the employer plan that had to be converted to cash as VGD did not offer them, but always have done in-kind transfer of assets directly from employer plan custodian to VGD custodian. Perhaps you are with a small employer that may have restrictions within the plan that mandates otherwise?

I was buying a house during that time. After the first big drop, I told myself this is the buy and hold moment and not to sell, but I had to move to cash to protect reserves to close.
I didn't time everything perfectly, but those accounts ended up being up around 40% on the year when the market returned 16% for 2020. Total "luck."

I use Vanguard and like them. Nothing wrong with Fidelity either. Vanguard keeps their fees very low and their App works well for me, so I’m good.
PS: if you do have to send them a check, you should be able to do it on the App.
