Anybody else here own GE stock? What are you doing with it? Anything?

I too like lighting my money on fire
I have had it on my watch list forever but can't bring myself to pull the trigger and now with the new CEO talking of splitting up into separate companies tells me he knows it's bad. It will be a LOOOOOOOOONG turn around if it happens or you might become a bag holder.

I have no problem riding out share value fluctuations long term. However, reducing the dividend by 50% and radical restructuring is cause for concern.

Well, they do make jet engines and there aren’t many other sources for them. And, if oil and gas exploration increases significantly in 2018, they’re well positioned for increased profits from the Baker Hughes acquisition. But, things don’t sit well with me when I see a giant company like this lose 45% of share price in 10 months. Oh, well...

Insider trading activity is public record, and it does not indicate that anyone with insider information is expecting to be left holding the bag.
CEO Flannery bought 60,000 shares on 11/15/2017, and 103,000 shares on 8.8/2017, these were purchases with his own money, and not exercised options. He holds a total of 621,000 shares.
GE Board of directors member John Tish bought 3,000,000 shares on 11/21/17, he only held 50,000 shares before that purchase.
Former CEO Immelt holds 2,607,596 shares and purchased 100,000 shares on 5/15/2017.
These were the largest purchases, but there were many significant purchases of GE stock by board of directors members and corporate officers in recent months.

Yea I've seen that. I think GE employees own like 60% of all outstanding stock currently. It does make me curious.

Am I the only one that would like to own shares knowing they would break the company up? These conglomerates can hold a lot of unrealized value when they're being held back by other businesses that suck up cashflow. I'd be interested to do a sum of parts analysis on GE

Yeah. I’m not going to jump into a stock like this with so much uncertainty and what is probably going to be even more pain in the near future.

If it hits 12-14, I will likely buy some. But then again, how much cash are you going to put in it and how likely are you to hold it for 2-3 years?
They won't see $30 a share again for years.

Q4 earnings report tomorrow - will keep an eye on that news.
I agree if the stock does drop another $2-3/share I'd go long haul - maybe two years max but would keep a close eye on it.
Likewise, if they split segments, I'd be interested to know how long they'd let them operate individually before opening to acquisition/merger likewise its less profitable operations running to pasture only to be picked up for $.01/$1.

It’s up $1 right now from yesterday open. Earnings announced now.

They missed earnings
quote:
The Boston-based industrial conglomerate posted a net loss of $9.64 billion, or $1.13 a share. Adjusted earnings of 27 cents a share missed estimates of 29 cents. Revenue of $31.4 billion also fell short of forecasts that called for $33.8 billion.

Well the damn thing keeps going up in pre market. You think it’ll crash again?
Posted on 1/24/18 at 7:54 am to YoungManOldMan
I think people are still optimistic because they had segments of their business that outperformed expectations and they know that the new CEO is still in the early stages of restructuring it all. That optimism is pushing the price right now.

k, by my calculations, you've moved up to #3 in our stock pickers' contest @ 14.20% YTD performance.

Wish I could replace MU with TSM on my picks

The SEC just announced it is investigating GE's insurance unit for maybe not calculating/reporting its loss reserve correctly.
Immelt may have been cooking the books more than I originally thought.
GE is now trading down over 1% in pre-market trading as a result of the announcement.
