..I just checked exxon over the last 5 years with dividends reinvested returned just 10.89%

That's a great site you linked. I've bookmarked it for future reference.

Do XOM again but for 10 rather than 5 years and see what you get.

FIL, took XOM buyout in 1980's, lump some settlement. Died last year, MIL and 2 daughters converting 60k shares to electronic book entry. CompuShare as Agent for XOM is disputing a paper certificate for 29 shares. Could cost more in research fees than the value. Shares are from the 1950's "Standard Oil Co."

I have 100% of my portfolio in XOM. Since $59. I'm like some kind of fricking genius right now.

Bloomberg is say that they will declare their dividend on 4/24. It's showing that it is expected to be $.65 from $.57

Exxon has stated they want to increase their dividend to become better aligned with their competitors.

I thought I had you beat on price but I went back and checked. I bought in at $60.08 (cost basis) on 5/25/10, so you win. But it is a small part of my portfolio. I hope you are kidding about being 100% of your portfolio.

I agree with you that XOM's dividend yield is too low but you have to remember that Exxon has raised its dividend EVERY YEAR for the last 30 years. That's a pretty impressive record. And they usually make their dividend increase announcement either at the end of April or the first week of May, so if they follow their pattern we should hear about a div increase soon.

34% increase the last two years. They still trail other major IOCs so I would expect it to go up to near $.70 next year. Good times for those that rely on the div for income.

It's also good times for those of us who don't rely upon dividends for income.

So you think Exxon isn't putting their capital to good use either?

I don't think I've said that in this thread.

I think Exxon's management know what they are doing. If I didn't think that, I'd sell my shares.
