ESPP Thoughts

What are the general thoughts on ESPP? My company does the standard 15% discount on the purchase price. We buy in at the lower close price between the opening and closing of the offering period (11/1 - 4/30). Do most people sell immediately for a quick gain?

My employer matches 5% of salary if I contribute 10% on a biweekly market purchase. Hard to top a 50% return. But I don't sell it immediately.

15% is way more than standard and might make the Short term capital gains not as bad

Same plan for me. Our stock has been doing well, so, I've been holding onto it. I have been using the stock for charitable donations. You a double whammy of sorts. You get to write off the market valve and not have to pay cap gains.

Always take the ESPP. My company does a similar 15% discount but the offering period is the lower price on 1/1 and12/31. Ive always sold as soon as the shares were available and put that towards the principal of my mortgage.

Ours as well. Hit our all time high in mid Feb before the crash. We've rebounded nicely and are back to our 1/1 price already. We've had really solid growth over the last several years with small hiccups every now and then. With the pattern of solid growth and the ability to always purchase the stocks at basically the 6 month low, does that outweigh the dividends and risk associated with holding stock?
P.S. Im new to investing. I've been contributing to my 401k for years, but just started ESPP and stocks.

ESPP is guaranteed money. It's a no brainer to me. Only hold if you would buy the stock on that day with new money. ESPP should not influence your portfolio allocation.

Yep. Sell for instant gain and diversify.
