Anyone had any success in challenging a property tax assessment in EBR? What was the process?

I know it's not funny but I always wonder, what do you tell them? "No! My house isn't worth that much. Just look at this shithole!"

Have a recent appraisal?. Neighborhood comps? Insured amount? I'd start with that if they are lower than assessment. Did you get notice that it was going up?

There is a three week period (was in September, I think) in which you can contest the assessment by going to the assessor's office. After that you can go to a metro council meeting and ask them to reduce it. Not sure what the timeline is for that step since everything has been pushed back due to the flooding.

I bought a foreclosure once and they had it appraised for about 30k more than I paid for it. I went to the local assessors ofice in Zachary and appealed. They lowered it 20k.
