Im just observing things. Alot of highly educated asians i know have big houses, but not much stuff. they dont go on many flashy vacations or have 4 wheelers or jet skis.
Could be a bunch of folks just trying to keep up with the Joneses so to speak. You never know

No car and stop eating out as much and you save $9K a year. That just from those 2 things.
So no eating out at all year long for your family? One meal a week for a family of 5 is easily $50. That sounds like a swell idea but it's fcking impossible in reality.

Look, people make justifications for everything.
The fact that you pay $3K for eating out, $3K for a vacation and also choose to have a car note +$350K home loan is on you.
Those above reasons ARENT the reason you can't afford private school. It is that private school isn't a top priority. It is to other people and it is possible to afford it.
That is literally all I am saying.

Do you send your kids to a private school? How many kids do you have and what age?

No but I pay a gymnastics bill that is just as large.
My wife Home schools because of gymnastics training.
Multiple kids

Hey moron. Spending $250 a month on eating out can be done and I guarantee you, most people spend at least this:
$20 for two people to eat lunch out once a week during the work week (God forbid you forget your lunch one day and spend $10)
$25 for pizza once a week (for the kids, is that okay?)
$40 at Jason's Deli once a week
This alone is $240/month.
PS. I can and do afford $30k in daycare for 2 kids. ALso, good luck finding a 4 BR house in Franklin or Brentwood or anywhere in Nashville right now for under $400k or without a $350k mortgage.
I'm just trying to get it through your tiny pea brain that if you only have a household income of $150k, you likely will have no money leftover if you send your kids to private school.

Based on your debt and spending no. But again, your case does not have to be everyone's.

I actually have more debt than this and and higher household income. I'm doing just fine. People with household income of $150k or less and send their kids to private school with no outside help are not.

Look, I am not being rude. However, you are saying things that I think a lot of people say that just aren't financially smart.
I am no wiz, but just because a home in your area costs $400K does not mean you must have a $400K mortgage. You know, some people save money. Or maybe they had an inheritance or got a settlement of some sort. Lots of examples........
All I am saying, is that $100K - $150K with little debt, private school is easy. In fact, lots of things are easy with very little debt.
Though, I am just a pea brain.

I didn't say that. $350k mortgage on a house that costs $400k. Try to keep up.
Private school with no outside help on 100k to 150k is not easy. No matter how times you say it, it doesn't make it true.

So, you actually aren't paying for private school and don't know people's financials (or your for that matter) but are saying it's easy. Gotcha.

To you it's not easy. That much is clear.
Then again, easy is all relative isn't it.

Here's how fast 150k goes (assumes two kids in daycare/private school): 18,000 Taxes (assumes 12% effective tax 15,000 401k @10% 24,000 mortgage (assumes $350k mortgage (P&T+Taxes) 30,000 daycare for 2 (2500 per month in Nashville) 6,000 1 car payment ($500 per month) 9,600 water, electric, cable, internet, cell phone, car insurance 7,200 (IRAs two roths and education 1 education IRA at $200 each) 3,600 Gas for the year 9,600 Groceries ($800/month) 3,000 Eating out ($250/month 3,000 Vacation (week at the beach + food, etc 5,000 Healthcare Premiums for family 1,000 Life Insurance Premiums 2,000 Summer camps, babysitters throughout the year 2,000 Misc sports (season tickets or a few games or weekend trips) 5,000 Misc repairs for AC, care, house, roof, plumbing, new tires, etc. 1,200 HOA dues 4,800 School supplies, computers, cell phone, clothes, Christmas, Birthdays, Furniture, etc. There isn't much room for anything to go wrong or to really buy anything and that's being really tight on groceries and eating out. Also, assumes no other debt besides house and car. I pay $2500 per month for daycare on Nashville. Private schools are $20k+ per year per kid. Between daycare and a private high school for 3 kids, I'd pay over $800 easily. No way I am doing that for a high school education. Trust me, other people are paying or someone else is paying for vacations, season tickets, or they are not saving a dime for retirement or college if they are only making $150k and sending their kids to private school.
Honestly, with those numbers you listed you just proved that it IS possible to do, with plenty of wiggle room (by just re-arranging priorities)
Posted on 8/9/16 at 10:33 pm to castorinho
There is no wiggle room there (no happy hours, no gym memberships, no monthly gymastics, no major medical bills, no theapy, no pedicures, no messages, etc.
And this isn't even saving enough for retirement at only 12%
