If the issue was money laundering, the IRS or another financial branch of the Executive Branch would be doing this.

You mean like the Department of Homeland Security?

You do know what the entire (supposed) reason for the existence of the DHS is, right?

The DHS investigates:

Terrorism
Drug Smuggling
Money Laundering

Human Trafficking/Smuggling
Import/Export Violations
Child Pornography/Exploitation
Document and Benefit Fraud
Gang-related Crimes
Intellectual Property Rights Violations
Worksite Enforcement

The coinlabs lawsuit is child pornography related

I didn't know that money laundering fell into their jurisdiction. I really don't think it's fair to say that's the entire reason for their existence.

So if it turns out that our Boston bombers used bitcoin as a means of financing (or any other group) BC is pretty much dead, amirite?

What if they didn't use bitcoins but used US dollars instead?

Nobody will care. But what if those Chechen turds were payed in bitcoin by a foreign terrorist organization and then converted the bitcoin to USD using Dwolla/ Magic The Gathering trying to avoid suspicious looking banking activity?

I never said it was.

Protecting the security of the country by crossing previous federal jurisdictions and fiefdoms is. Remember how a big problem that helped 9-11 go off was the FBI and the CIA weren't talking to each other?

So, yeah, the IRS does handle most of the regular money laundering cases but the DHS will feel free to step in and initiate their own investigations and/or oversee the IRS one at any time.

They'll be thrilled because dollars are much more easily tracked.

Well since we all know you can't purchase a pressure cooker anywhere on the planet with bitcoin, that's pretty much a given. However, if BC was used to try and hide the transfers, well, BOOM goes the dynamite

And they would easily have that info by now, having confiscated the brothers technology devices

So is the DHS issue with Dwolla or MtGox?
If I had to guess I'd say Dwolla has been the transfer agent of funds to people DHS does not like receiving money.

I don't know.

Here's a reddit discussion thread on it: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1ebzru/dwolla_no_longer_allowed_to_do_business_with_mtgox/

one of the comments quoted a reply from Dwolla:

Update 4:28 pm ET: I've received a response from Dwolla support that they cannot provide a copy of the order at this time:

Thank you for your email. We were told this will be made pubic [sic] but do not have a time frame for when this would be happening.
