Dependent question on taxes

So my impulsive son goes to HR Block on a whim, without telling me, to file taxes. Supposed to "free," but it turns out he would owe them $41 for doing it. Didn't have the cash to pay, so the tax rep said lets look at it with your student loans...or something like that. Finds out if he claims himself, and I can't claim him now, he will get back $1800. Starts orgasming at the thought of that much money, and goes ahead with it, fricking me out of money since he lives with me and I support him with the exception of paying for his school (ITT)
But because I can't claim him as a dependent now, does that mean I have to take him off my health insurance policy since it is limited to family members/dependents? I'm so pissed. I have no idea how much I lost since I have two dependents and his girlfriend living with us. I prolly could have claimed her too. FML
ETA:Oh, and now their $41 fee went to $176. fricking bastards.

Sounds like you should start charging him rent since he's no longer your dependent. $1,800 for the first month room & board sounds about right to me.

I'm pretty sure that the new law says that your health plan (from work, that is) must cover any child under 26, regardless of whether they're in college, working, getting high on the basement couch, etc., so long as he/she doesn't have they're own coverage at their work.
ETA: I'd give him a choice -- (a) pay you the entire $1,800, or (b) amend his return and don't claim the credit. You could go to TaxAct! and figure out which is most advantageous. If he refuses, tell him that he'll have to get a new landlord for himself and his girlfriend.
Of course, if the girlfriend is hot, she could always stay behind!

I totally agree!!! He bought a piece of shite car that costs 2000+ after repairs. That's why he's so foaming at the mouth for the money...with no thought of the consequences.
The new landlord idea is good...and the girlfriend is very hot. No pics, tho! She reads the OT on the regular...but is not registered.
But I do feel relieved if the new law allows for him to stay on my policy. Got a feeling it would cost me more...somehow, someway, if he was not insured.
Thanks, y'all. Got to sleep now...working nights now.

I never say Caddy Shack. (Yeah, I know, I'm the only one.)
I heard Bobby Knight use that reference when he was coaching his son at Indiana.

Your Man-Card has been officially REVOKED.
Your Punishment -- For two weeks, every time OTTOTHEMORON makes a post on the Poli board, you must agree with him and post a reply praising his intellectual abilities. You must do this no matter how insane, moronic and delusional the post may b... er, is.
