flying domestic for vacation each year since no kids yet. My primary expenses are gas and groceries

ETA: so I was just looking at the fine print on the CSP and since I already have a chase freedom account with them am I not eligible for the sign up bonus on the CSP?

You are definitely eligible for the signup bonus for the CSP. I assume you've never had it before. Your Freedom has nothing to do with it. Separate products.

That's why I asked why you only fly Delta.

There are also better values for domestic flights such as Southwest & British Avios.

A perk of a Delta branded card is free luggage.

I read mixed results about the companion pass and since I'm not usually paying for even my ticket, the companion pass is worthless to me.

Yes, you are.

The Amex gold is something you could consider. It gives bonus points on gas and grocery. It allows transfers to Delta at 1:1 and often gives a bonus on transferring to British Avios(which you can use on AA flights), so it hits 2/3 of your airlines.

The Ink Bold/Plus if you would fly United and it can transfer to Avios(AA) as well. Works well with the Freedom you already have plus has a 50k point signup and 5x points on cable and cellphone bills.

If you're not a big traveler, getting a branded card such as Delta, AA, United for everyday spend generally isn't your best option.

I've never had a problem using mine. We use both every year

I have one more question. If I add my wife as an authorized user on a credit card does it help her credit score any? Since we are married do i even need to worry about her individual credit score?

It will not help her score. Yes you should worry about her score.

It most certainly could depending on the situation.

My wife's cards show up on my credit report that I'm an authorized user on. Don't know how it's measured or if it's factored in at all for my score, but it's there.

On another note, ThePointsguy blog just stated that he is on his 3rd Citi Exec 100k point card. All cards are active and open and going to one AA account.

Screw it...I'm getting another one in July if still available. I probably spent about $70 in charges getting to the $10k in spend plus the $250 for the fee. So, I'll anticipate about $350 all in this time around for 110k AA points. That's a pretty damn fine deal considering what those points can get you.

I just went through the process with Amex of adding my girl as an authorized user on my card and they were adamant it would do nothing to her score and anything she did would solely impact mine

A joint account is one thing, authorized users is another

Is one under your name, another wife's and then the third is ...? Not understanding how you can have 3 of the same card open.

What he says. I know, it doesn't sound right.

ETA: I'm assuming one each for biz/personal. Maybe he has 2 different businesses? He's a bit vague on that.

What kind of amex? Charge or credit?

It certainly can help/hurt the authorized user's credit score. I know this for a 100% fact because I have helped a handful of family and friends increase their credit scores and this is one of the ways I have done it.

Piggybacking on other's credit cards is a widely used practice to help someone increase their score. Not sure why someone at amex would tell you that.

Some people are on their 5th Exec card and are applying for #6 soon. Citi lets you churn the card. You can get a card and a second 8 days later. You then have to wait 65 days from the first application to apply again and can get another 8 days later again. Rinse and repeat.

LSUAfro,

I don't know how you went about the 10k, but my recent foray into loading BB with GC at WM went awry today. Looked to FT to see I was not alone. Kate nor register worked. Not sure if temporary.

Just a heads up. Might need an alternative means if this one is done.

Have to slow burn $1,400 if so. Annoying.
