I need to fly on AA with no AA miles, Starpoints or TYP.
Suggestions?
I'm thinking Avios, but AA availability is a PITA.
Maybe using UR with CSR through chase travel portal? Are all routes available for booking like this or just the ones found in the online search?

Ok so if there is no award availability on AA then what points you have doesn't matter. If there is award availability then your best option is Avios (UR, Starpoints), Etihad (MR, TYP, Starpoints) or Alaska (Starpoints) depending on where you are trying to go.
If booking through portal, I would use TYP since it is 1.6c on flights marked AA compared to 1.5c through UR. Also, for me, UR are much more valuable than TYP so I'd use TYP before UR anyway.
Where are you trying to go? And why limited to AA? And why not use AA miles (transferred through starwood)? Great deals to be had. Just the other day I booked this ticket for 25,520 + $11.20: MSY-CLT-PIT(dest); PIT-PHL-CLT-PGV(dest); PGV-CLT-MSY. Used reduced mileage awards and used up the rest of my 10% redemption bonus through Citi. Ticket price was $1,100
Meh. Never chased status so I could care less. But unless you travel to Hyatt locations for work for at least 60 nights in a year, it is for the worse.

They aren't changing their award redemption chart though right?

No pretty sure they aren't

Where are you trying to go?
LFT - LAX
And why limited to AA?
My wife's work threw a wrench in our vacay plans short notice and now she is working the full day before thanksgiving.
AA has the only flight that fits the required time schedule to catch our CX flight at 12:05AM.

Ahh. So basically, if that flight does not show award availability, your best option is use TYP at 1.6c.
Flying CX F?

I took J because that 12:05 flight is the toughest to get availability on. Noticed 3 opened on Monday morning and called AS to book.
Took 3 calls as some glitch was causing the seats to go in and out of inventory every few minutes. The third agent was patient as i kept refreshing BA site for availability to reappear.
The availability back to the US in F is far greater from what i have been seeing, so i may experience it yet.
I'm debating whether i should even spend the extra 20k miles or save them for an Australia trip next year on Qantas. I'm still debating, Qantas out of DFW is more convenient but VA looks to be the better experience for the transpacific flight.

Question about booking through the TYP/UR portal, are the flights found in the online search the only options? Or are more options available to telephone agents?
Posted on 11/1/16 at 4:11 pm to HollierThanThou
Flights online are the only options AFAIK.
Its pretty widely known that BA will show phantom award availability. Need to check Expert Flyer or AS website

Yeah, I was using both Qantas and BA sites for Cathay.
For AA, BA and AS.

HEY CREDIT CARD NERDS, NEED SOME THOUGHTS ON A BUSINESS CREDIT CARD.
business revenues for this location specific would be 2-3m.
we currently bank with Iberia but they do not have any special options.
i personally bank with Chase and have a Saphire preferred and Freedom.
Know pops uses an Amex a lot.
which one(s) would you recommend and way?

Business Revenue would have nothing to do with what credit card you want. It is to do with business expenses.
Depending on what you spend most on - Chase Ink or the new Chase Ink preferred is probably the way to go.

I got a question. I'm going to sign my grandmother up for a delta credit card to get miles for a trip next year. She is retired so she really doesn't have any income. How does that work when applying for a card?

What is the best UR partner for flying to Beijing?

Since you are going to be paying the CC, I don't think it is unethical to list your income on the app. As long as grandma knows what you're up to.

If flying economy - buy the ticket through portal @ 1.5c per point. Flights are cheap especially from Houston on Air China (direct IAH-PEK. Nice flight. Planes (77W) are new but food is terrible in Economy, as expected). Otherwise, transfer to UA to fly Air China metal.

I got the CSP and CSR in the last 5 months. They gave me ridiculously high credit limits for both even though I didn't ask for it.
I really the Ritz Carlton card because I plan to stay at the one in Maui for a honeymoon. So I applied and got rejected because Chase already has given me a high credit limit.
What do I do? Do I first try to reduce my limit and then call and have them re-evaluate? Or do I call and discuss the issue and ask them to lower the limit and approve the Ritz? Go into a branch?

Call and discuss to move around credit.
Don't forget 2/30 rule.

Thanks. I got the CSP in June and the CSR in late August. So I don't think that is an issue. The letter just said "you already have the maximum amount of credit we can offer you" and "your current amount of credit is enough in relation your income"
So just call the number on the letter for re-evaluation?
Posted on 11/8/16 at 8:14 am to lsumatt
Yeah, call chase recon. Have a few reasons why you want the 3rd card (bonus miles/points is not one). Tell them you are open to moving credit around from your existing accounts to open the third one. Should be fine.
