I value vacation time much more as I get older so I give very little effort and thought to things that take away from it.
Wife gets mad when I work on vacation. Not all the time, but I have too many clients to completely shut down. This last trip for 3 weeks in Europe I was really good about it but I was still checking email and answering some once a day. I long for the days to completely be done. When we went to Maldives the first time in 2011 I didn't use my phone or even bring my laptop as the job I had was a 9-5er. It was so relaxing. Now that I have my own company I haven't signed off in 5 years (including the 2nd trip there and she was getting mad)

It won't change. Owning the company means you have to be connected. My first criteria when renting a place for vacation is connectivity. My wife understands that for her to get to go to the places she goes and stay where she stays I'm going to have to work while I'm on vacation. I don't let it interrupt plans but there's always some work to be done. I don't mind. Generally I can generate enough money to pay for the next trip while I'm away.

Haha, you made the correct decision...or maybe that's just me and misery loves company. (I have a 2 year old) haha
My travel is pretty domesticated these days.

I have a couple trips to Europe/Asia for work and I refused to take the wife with me so I could enjoy my first class trip without spoiling her

Yes, I encourage all my friends to pro create regularly to join me in the life draining and money hemorrhaging journey we call life

Yeah. We have still been getting after it, but it's getting to be a lot. Finally decided to kind of back burner big travel with kids right now. Just not sure where to burn my vacatio for the next couple years. I'm not a 30A kind of guy. I have little desire to spend $4k on a weekly condo rental in Destin to fight for beach chairs and deal with all the masses spending their yearly savings on a gulf shores blowout. Not trying to be condescending, I did it as a child. I'm pretty easy going and can go anywhere but my vacation time is going to be elsewhere. Just gotta figure that out

Since Wholesale clubs are part of the 5% rewards on Freedom, would I be able to go buy $1500 worth of gift cards at Sams tomorrow and get the 5% back? Or is it on Merch only
Posted on 8/12/16 at 7:07 pm to TigerTatorTots
Gift cards don't code differently at the wholesale stores, so you're good.

What denomination GCs are available at Sam's club?

Hey Kop - can you help with tips on routings to BOM? I want to try to improve flights from what we currently have (some of my crew are in LH coach and I'm a few days later on AI biz). I have plenty of UA, AA, SPG, UR and MR that I could use. Just looking for a one way there since we have the return booked on Qatar biz and I ain't changing that.
I feel like I'm inefficient when it's not on UA or star alliance. If you have any suggested pathways like below, that would be helpful.

Yep. Although I will not run this particular company forever so I guess it will depend what my next act is. I'm trying to acquire more properties and pay them off in the next 15 years so those will be my income and there won't be a need for daily interaction.

You sound like me but the wife understanding part
She's not bad though, I'm exaggerating a little, she knows where the bread is buttered.

Yup. Thats how cool this is. Especially if you have the Ink. Under 30 mins of work
Update on the booking process: I had called yesterday and spent 5 minutes in the phone with Korean who took some info down and said SkyPass was closed and would call me back. They called today and 10 minutes later I have 2 RT tix to MSY for 50,000. I just had them hold the tickets and I'll do the transfer if we're gonna take the trip.
So awesome, thanks for the heads up on this. To Europe is only 50/80 from here as well
All I want to do is collect UR now. Any good ways to go to Asia Pacific like this? Their award charts for Asia are bad so hoping you know another trick

Lots of different variables here. Firstly, I'm not sure where you are located and don't know if you can position yourself. But let me try:
To get to BOM some of the best options to connect are:
- Star
1) From MUC on LH
2) From FRA on LH
3) From PEK on CA
Search on ANA
- OW
1) From KUL on MH
2) From HKG on CX
3) From LHR on BA (with high Fuel)
4) Royal Jordanian is another option here but I'm not very familiar with this
Search on BA/Qantas
- SkyTeam
1) From JED or RUH on SV (Saudia)
Search on FlyingBlue
- Others
1) From AUH on EY
2) From DXB on EK
Search on Etihad or Alaska.
If I remember correctly, you wanted to fly at least J. In case you want to fly Y, I would buy revenue ticket with cash/TYP/UR since flights to India are dirt cheap. For J - your best option is to book *A award through ANA (*A) or Alitalia's MileMiglia (SkyTeam). 100K RT for both compared to the next best 140K with AA.
So basically, I would search leg by leg backwards. Search for the last leg to BOM first, then connect to the connecting city. For example: For CX, I would search for HKG-BOM first, then search flight to HKG from ORD/JFK/SFO/LAX, and finally the last leg to connect to one of those US gateways to from wherever you are located.
Remember - you can mix and match partners with most programs. If you can find the flights on your dates, I can probably help you with best program to use.
Let us know how it goes or if you need any other help
ETA: Just re-read your Q. ANA is RTs only. So that is not an option for you.

You're kidding me..? Are you making a trip to Sam's any time soon and could confirm this?

That is amazing. Glad it worked out perfectly. And yeah, if you can circumvent the YQ that Korean passes down, Europe for 80K in J is awesome. And remember - HI is considered within USA and so is the Carribbean. So you could fly from HI to Europe and back to St. Maarten. All for 50/80K. That is a lot of flying for that much.

Haha UR are definitely amazing. That is why CSP is a must starter card for everyone.
Korean is not so good for Asia (to get to). That is where ANA shines. Once there, is a whole different story and probably beyond the scope of this thread right now

Excellent, thanks kop. I was having trouble getting organized on flights into BOM. I fly out of IAH mostly so pretty good connectivity. I will begin the search and report back.
Posted on 8/13/16 at 2:39 pm to txtiger79
The one that sticks out out of IAH would be CA. IAH-PEK-BOM. They have a pretty nice Business class too. IAH-FRA-BOM is another.
