I haven't flown NH, but I have heard good things about it. Plus, Japanese service is about as good as it gets. If you can find first class awards on NH, that is a legit option. Another factor is that if you are continuing on to Hong Kong, both of your flights will be on international airlines (most likely internationally configured) flying IAH-NRT-HKG. If you fly IAH-LAX-HKG, your IAH-LAX leg will be a domestic carrier.
If it's NH business vs. CX first, I still definitely take the IAH-LAX flight for CX first.

Even if it is NH business vs CX business or NH first vs CX first, I'd choose CX. Trouble is finding the IAH-LAX leg on a OW carrier (AA).

AmeriKop, how do you generate refer a friend links for Chase without email specific?

Anyone know the unwritten, or written, rule for downgrading a card after an upgrade with AMEX?
For instance, I'm playing the upgrade to Surpass and then back down to no fee hilton game but is there a general safe time frame to downgrade after the upgrade? I want to take advantage of the prorated annual fee refund before the new change.

Don't think so.

Instead of email button, hit twitter button. When the tweet preview pops up, copy the link.

AmeriKop45. Would be interested to see what your recommendation would be for 3 nights in California with 39K SPG Points. I can get to SJC on American for 37.5Kx2 miles RT, with economy out and business on the way home. Would like to get down to Big Sur/Carmel area. Considering going that way to propose in mid August.

Transfer to BA. 12.5k/25k Hawaii to west coast on AA or AS. You'll need 37.5k avios total. Or 32.5k spg with 5k bonus on first 20k. If you did economy rt, then that'll be total of 20k Spg (25k avios).
If you have Chase points, I'd use that for this transfer.
You can also use Flying blue for flights on delta. Need 30k rt in economy or 25k spg. Not sure what business is but it's ridiculously priced iirc.
If you have Chase points, then you can also use Korean to fly to anywhere in the US for 25k rt on delta. But you can only use this for yourself and immediate family (no gf /fiance)

So I've had my Barclays card for a few months now and my Fico score has gone down a bit. When I first applied it was a 798, then 2 months ago it was 789. Now today it's a 782. One of the new things affecting it is "the number of accounts and balances on them" but the thing is that's my only card. I pay off the card every few days so I'm wondering what that means. Is it possible the credit score was run when I had a balance and even though the balance was only a few days old and has since been paid off it affected the score that much?
Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

Left out some info, I have 142k AAdvantage miles that I can use for flights. Need to find a way to use the 38k SPG for 3 nights worth of hotels.

Yes. For revolving credit, you get a slight hit if you don't have >50% of yoru revolving credit with $0 balances
Additionally, your credit utilization would go up as well if it was your only card in addition to lowering your average credit age.
If you pay off your balance 1 day before your credit statement is cut, it shoudl report as $0 and your score will go up

Will it correct itself to the original score?
Also, if I have a balance next time it is scored will it drop even further?
How do you know when your score will be run again?

In that case I would just pay the 22.5K/40K one way on AA and call it a day. No other choice really. HNL-LAX availability is pretty good. However, I'd book sooner rather than later.
Btw - A lot of times the LAX-HNL leg flies empty at night. Meaning you would probably have middle seat open. Especially if you can sweet talk the agent. In empty flights they'd do this automatically though. So I'd save my miles for something else.
No SPG hotels (or any other hotels) in the big sur area. The only one is the Hyatt Carmel Highlands. 25K points or do the C+P option.

It is funny to me that people from the mainland would kill to go to Hawaii to propose. And you are going the other way

Anyone stay at the Hyatt Regency on the Hudson? Thinking of staying there with points as it is only a tier 4
Not sure if I want to do that or AirBnB

What's the best way to get to India for both First class and economy?
Nearly every Hyatt there got downgraded and that would be a sweet trip

Probably the Gulf airlines, like Emirates and Etihad.

Rant incoming:
My wife and I have the companion pass which has saved us several thousand dollars already this year. I fly cross country every few weeks for work so I use SW exclusively to save points for future vacations.
However, flying SW for work is got damn draining. Everyone is bursting out of their seats because Americans are so fat, kids screaming because of poor parenting, rap music blasting through headphones so loud I can hear it through my headphones.
I'm not going to stop flying SW but holy shite, I wish people would just act civilized for the few hours we are stuck in this cramped plane.
/gripe

You should look into Ambien. My dad used to be a yearly Delta diamond member and was shocked that I don't take it

Etihad apartments is still somewhat do able. With AS devaluing Emirates awards, that's a much harder redemption at 180k miles one way. There have been two transfer bonuses to Etihad recently. 30% from Mr which has ended and currently 25% from TYP. Will bring redemption to little over 100k.
As far as economy goes, you're better off paying cash to India. It's easy to find sub 700 fares to India due to high traffic and to Asia in general as well.
