The Conrad does the same. The PH and Conrad are so far away that speed boat will take longer. The Holiday Inn had a $150 speed boat (RT). I was looking into this one but decided not to go to the Maldives to stay at an HI
Which begs the question - why tf do they have a HI on the Maldives? Just upgrade it and make it a badass IC

You applied using the correct promo code and completed all the requirements in time and confirmed after doing so?
Even if you didn't confirm, you should be able to get it. What did they say?
I never applied so it doesn't apply to me. From what I've heard, citi is falling back on "it was a targeted offer". If someone has documentation that they were confirmed to receive bonus that may be a little different but I wouldn't expect much at this point.

Since AmeriKop already gave you some options, my biggest advice...if you're trying to keep it cheap, at least get business/first on the way back. Coach on a long intercontinental flight is bearable when you're excited about where you're going. It's absolutely miserable when you've just left paradise. Being pampered in business or first on your way back makes you feel better about heading back to reality and helps with some of the jet lag.

I'm actually the opposite. For me my vacation ends when I get on the plane back and it is time to get back to reality.
If I fly up front I try to do it on the outbound to compound my excitement and make sure I am ready to go and not tired when I land

I'm torn. I've done premium cabin there and not back and vice versa. I love getting the trip started out right, but damn it's nice to lay that chair out on the way home and get re-charged.
My wife would take premium cabin on way home every time if she had to choose.

shite. I don't know how you do that. Flying coach after a long vacation makes me want to murder someone.

I'll do premium cabin on the way and plus seating on the return. Depending on the airline they have a separate little area for awards travel that receives a level of service above economy and below first/business. We were in this cabin on American from Rome to JFK last September. It was a pleasant flight.

Nice. Did not know this.

First off, thanks for the replies.
We'd love to splurge for business class but because of so many additional expenses involving this trip, we'll suck it up and fly coach. Not going to be fun, but hell, I'd rather spend an extra few grand scuba diving. Like you pointed out, once we arrive in Male, were on the hook for another $500 a piece to transfer. On top of that, we are going to upgrade to an overwater villa for another $400/night. So, while the points are greatly subsidizing the trip it's still going to cost some coin. Which were fine with, just trying save where we can.
The best option I've found so far is through the chase portal flying out of IAH. We could catch a BTR to IAH separately for pretty cheap.
That flight would be IAH to MALE for just under $1,100 each. It has a 7 hr layover in Dubai, which actually is kind of interesting to me, assuming we could get out of the airport for a couple hours and see the architecture. Anybody do this ever?
This would be on emirates directly through the Chase portal directly. I wasn't sure if there was a more effective manner to fly Emirates by transferring to them or an affiliate?

Don't forget you'll have a $500 per person RT plane hop and boat ride from MLE to Park Hyatt. Barclays Arrival plus might be a good card for you to defray some of these ancillary costs.
Yeah. It's a little much, but I actually prices the flight from MALE to KDD directly and the fare is about $400/each, then there's the boat from there. So I don't think the hotel is trying to profit from this. Which, for whatever reason, makes it less painful.
This is the catch-22 using these free nights at such and expensive destination. Nothing is booked, so we may look into other options. We just wanted a destination like the Maldives/bora bora...

Try Hawaii? Andaz on Maui and Grand Hyatt on Kauai. Both are awesome. Much cheaper than the Maldives.
Remember in Maldives since you're on a hotel owned private island your only food options are at the hotel. You can buy a meal plan in advance. But trust me on this - they're definitely making a profit there.
Plus if you're going to the Maldives, don't go there to stay on land. Upgrade to an over water. Which will be around 200$ a night more.
The best use of Hyatt nights is at one of their All inclusive properties. Nights are $500 compared to $800 at Maldives etc, but everything's included. And the food is great unlike other all inclusives. Check out the Zilara in Cancun. All suite, all ocean facing, all with a Jacuzzi in the room. Possibility of getting upgrades to pool villa.
ETA: Imo , $1100 on Emirates is a solid option on a solid airline. You'll notice service on ME3 economy is so much better than the legacy carriers. Credit miles to Alaska. Go out in Dubai for a few hours. Do this!

Do you guys proactively reduce open amex credit lines when preparing to apply for additional credit cards from them? Any rules of thumb regarding how many cards are too many etc? Thanks!
Posted on 5/9/16 at 3:46 pm to txtiger79
Not I. AmEx won't let you get more than 4 credit cards business and personal included. There is some anecdotal evidence where there may be a way to circumvent this nowadays because AmEx is getting more aggressive in getting new customers. You can always try. If AmEx denies for this reason, they don't do a hard pull. You can have any number of charge cards.
2 credit cards a month limit. 1 credit card per day. 1 credit + 1 charge = 1 HP

Got the Prestige card in the mail today, damn what a box they send it in!! How long will it be before the priority pass shows up? I have the only flight I have booked for the year not on AA coming up in two weeks.

Mine came in a few weeks later. May be touch and go. You may be able to get in with your Prestige card. But I've never tried this myself.

AmeriKop45,
Do you think this was worth it for the cost?
I used this link and got 100k points.
LINK
I received an email last night from AMEX offering 50k so I found this one 20 minutes ago.
I figured it for now even though the cost is $450.

Yes absolutely. You can get $400 ($200 before Dec, $200 after) in Airline credits (can be used for Gift cards) + $100 in Global Entry Credit. So you've made back your money and more.
On top of that you are getting: 1) 100K points, valued at at least $2000, 2) Centurion lounge access 3) SPG Gold 4) Hilton Gold.
