Flights to Zakynthos are so expensive. Plus I would love to do at least one ferry across the blue waters of the Ionian/Aegean seas. I am even considering doing a road trip from Athens to Zakynthos which would include a car ferry. Not decided on anything yet.
If you had to choose - Zakynthos or Mykonos?
Would be missing out on Crete & Paros. Hopefully won't regret that.

You should definitely look into that option. Remember - flights operated by United will have fuel on them when booking through partners in Asia. But the fuel isn't that much different, if not the same, between Y and F/J tickets and they are often times as much as the cost of an economy ticket.

Anyone have suggestions for the best point/$$ redemption for IHG properties (besides Bora Bora)? Currently have a 4th of July weekend in Pensacola booked for a 1.3 cent per point redemption. Looking to see if there is anything around that value or better for a bigger trip early next year.

Off the top of my head maybe The Mayfair in London

Too broad of a question. There are so many. This should help

I haven't been to either, but I've read Mykonos is getting super crowded these days in a bad way.

I have been researching this as well. I will have about 300k aa miles and 150k ihg points with 2 free certificates. Right now I'm looking at intercontinental bali or danang Sun. Haven't gotten into the details yet though. Any other suggestions?

That is a cool tool, but doesn't get me what I'm looking for. What I was asking is what properties are typically a higher price relatively compared to the points it takes to book a night? For example- Bora Bora is I thnk 50k points, but $900/night. Thats a 1.8 cents per point redemption (but damn near impossible to book on points).
What properties are typically more expensive per point it takes to book?

You don't want to do Bora Bora either? That would be a nice use of those free night certs.
Again - don't use your AA miles to fly economy to Asia. Flights to Jakarta were sub $700 day before. Also - hotels in Indonesia (and Asia in general) are quite cheap anyway so makes sense to do some promos to earn a bunch of points.
Look into Australia, Europe etc where there are options of both expensive and cheap hotels and using miles makes sense.
I see

I typically don't find great value in booking top tier redemption on points. Low/Mid-tier will usually yield better value. For ex: I recently booked a 5,000 pointsbreak hotel that was going for $110 with taxes. As platinum I got 500 point at check-in, so the night cost me 4,500 points. That is a value of a little over 2.4 cents per point.
But if you absolutely must - look at ICs in Europe. I am booked into IC Paris Le Grand this summer for two nights with cash value of $880/nt. Booked on points I would get 1.8cpp But I used free night certs.
Another interesting option is the Holiday Inn Express in Snowmass. Oldish hotel but with a pretty good location right by the mountain (actually a block away from the ski-in/out Westin). This hotel is going for $400 over peak ski season but can be had for 20K Ihg points, giving you a value of a little over 2 cpp with welcome amenity.

I always look at the pointbreaks but never seen any hotel that I feel is worth making a vacation out of. I'll keep on the lookout though

Most of these points were acquired with the intention of doing Bora Bora, it just seems much less feasible due to the blog popularity and closing the loophole.
If I can make it work it would win out, but I started looking into other options as well. The danang IC looks like a pretty sweet alternative but I haven't looked in to routing yet.

Cook Islands are a great alternative to Bora Bora. I don't know what the redemptions or flights look like for there.

UA miles. UA flies to RAR. So does Air NZ. Both Star so redeem UA miles
I feel the landscape is a little more dynamic in Bora Bora than the Cook islands (from what I've seen in pictures) but that is a pretty good shout.

If I hadn't already done French Polynesia it would be at the top of the list. On the flight from there to Fiji we did a very brief layover on the Cook Islands and have always wanted to go back.
Posted on 4/15/16 at 10:53 am to VABuckeye
Isn't there an IC in Fiji?
Posted on 4/15/16 at 11:22 am to Creamer
Yes but I didn't suggest that because apparently the chain hotels are not the way to go in Fiji. They lack the originality from what I've heard.

Not sure. It was a long time ago. I do remember that the resort we stayed at was really nice.

Anyone know the best redemption for intra-Asia flights??
Check out Jet star and Air Asia.

I see AIr Asia flights in to Haneda from DMK for $170. That's pretty damn good. It's a 6 hour flight, and I like Air Asia. Free booze and meals and the flight attendants have been some of the best in the business... oh and hot.
Plus the benefit of flying in to Haneda is pretty damn worth it over NRT. If you really don't want to pay for it, cash out 17k Chase points. Doubtful you'll find a redemption cheaper than 17k points.

Could be 13.6K points if you book through Chase travel portal (provided you have Sap or Ink)
