A huge blow but could get by with an SO. Between person As aggressive apps + SOs limited apps, you could still pull of 3-4 trips a year.

Well. It may be wise to hold out on Chase Apps for your SO and then have them load up and start their churn game over.

Chase has too many good cards to neglect all together. Sucks.

Yup. This is changing the game.

This is actually going to cause me to hold out on applying for new cards for my wife for 2016. She only got 3 in 2015, so she should be good to go for 2017. I've gotten spoiled with companion pass. I'll be passing up some points for her, but 110k SW points that equates to 220k SW points for 2 cards is tough to beat.

I guess I'm snagging the Ink and United cards while I can.

Speaking of SW...Both Barron’s and Wall Street Journal are currently offering a $1 option for a 3-month subscription. You can choose the digital-only option or the paper + digital option – both have the $1 rate. I just paid $1 for a wall street journal subscription and go 1,100 SW miles (Also counts towards companion pass)

I will be going for the Ink in March but I'm pretty much tapped out with Chase.

(You can also get other miles for the promotion...Pay $2 for 2600 AAdvantage Miles, or for Soutwest & United Miles, or $25 Profit)

I'll probably just churn the Citi Platinum AA card this year. I can make good use of AA miles plus I have almost 200k Avios. I can use Chase UR and Amex MR points to fuel United if I need miles for one of their flights.

My wife used to fight me on her apps until we flew business to Thailand. Used to frustrate me but now I'm thinking with all these changes it has worked back into our favor.

Of course, I'd rather just have the system we had back in 2013.

I swear I have the worst timing with my age. Get out of college, economic collapse, get into law school, legal field collapse, etc. Steady job for credit cards, game collapses. It's gonna come my way eventually.

I am in the exact same boat. I already got screwed with my housing downpayment too

Added my new bank to investment acct and had to wait 3 business days for it to be approved. In those 3 days, I lost $2,000 in value. Should have allowed them to mail me the damn check

Yep. I think most of us started at the end of the golden era of the game. Still plenty of easy targets out there, but chase is really the golden goose these days as far as versatility across the board with hotel and air products.

Damn shame too because most of my chase cards hit their 2 year mark this year.

Oh well. I'm with buckeye though, I'll be churning citi and stock piling. while the getting is still good.

Southwest should pick up a couple A380s for Europe travel. I'd like to see the shite show boarding 500 bubbas and Thelma's in unassigned seating.

Oh it's not even debatable. If I'm using my wife's SSN, were riding in the front of the bus. She's a nervous traveler as it is. I suggested coach last year to Europe because I couldn't find a biz class seat that fit our schedule. I swear I think she was literally ready to nix the trip. it's funny because without this hobby, we'd probably only fly biz if i snagged a really good deal and sure as hell wouldn't be flying $15k first class seats to Tokyo and Hong Kong.

I can't blame her completely. I'm not flying back to Asia in coach any time soon.

Y'all are spoiled!

Somehow I convinced myself to not be conservative and spent extra miles for a premium cabin for the first time.

Although I've flown J a few times, and although I am 6'2", I really really don't seem to mind coach for some reason. Conservative policy :) Business is nice but not a necessity for me by any means.

Once that seats goes all the way flat, you can't go back. I think I smiled for a good 10 minutes the first time I did that. Almost sat back up to have another glass of Champagne to do it again

I really don't mind coach either under 7-8 hours. Flying butt in seat 20 hours to somewhere like Bangkok, it's just a world of difference to me.

I don't mind coach as long as it's premium economy and the flight isn't too long. frick those seats in the back though. I need some room. 6'2" and thin.

Hey guys was hoping to get some advice.

I just put a diamond ring on layaway, I have the cash already but wanted to charge it to a card to get the rewards from it.

My current cards:
1. Discover card (only use when gas is the 5% cash back revolving reward)
2. Citi 2% cash back (this is my daily card)
3. Bank of America 3% cash back on gas (use this when not using discover for gas)

My current plan was to just pay for it all with my citi card to collect 2% cash back on it.

I was looking to add an Amex at some point just not sure which I should go with. I am split between the premier rewards gold card (since I could easily make the $2000 for the bonus points since I'll be paying for the ring) or the Amex everyday preferred card (basically just for the 6% cash back on groceries). But if I'm reading correctly both could be had for just the price of the gold card.

eta: I was pre approved for the premier rewards gold card so it would be a total of 50,000 bonus rewards points which makes that offer more enticing.

I'm not sure if I like the gold card or like the idea of having the gold card.. I'm still in school, graduate next year but I make decent money now and usually book 1-2 flights a year currently. Not sure if gold card would be worth it or not.

Im also open to considering other cards out there.

Depending on how much the ring cost, open 2-3 bonus offers and ask to split the transactions, you could easily collect 100-150k points that way.

This is the right advice. Try to open cards that work together for miles. Like the SPG Amex and a Citi aa MasterCard. Or get the chase sapphire and a united explorer card. Again, depends on how much the ring costs as these all have spending requirements of $2k-$3k each to get the bonus. Might easily earn honeymoon flights from the ring purchase.

Ring is 10900, I already paid 1000 from citi card so balance sitting at 9900 currently

But that is a great point I haven't thought about doing that. I guess I am not aware how the point transfers work well enough to have thought to do that. I guess my original plan to pay it off with the doublecash would be dumb since it would only yield me about $220.

You should figure out what you want the points for. Hotels, airline and which one. Then we can tell you the best offer. With that amount you can easily do 3 or 4 cards' intro offers assuming your credit can support the apps.

Here is what I would do:

Option 1: Ask your vendor if there would be any discounts if you paid cash up front. If you can save 4-5%, I would go that way. This is not hard to get. If my knowledge is right, most credit card companies charge 2.5%-3.5% processing fee. They could pass these savings on to you. I would even go so far to push the vendor for this a little.

Option 2:
Sign up for multiple CCs. Keeping recent developments in mind, here is what I would sign up for:

Chase Sapphire Preferred ($5k) - 60K Chase Points
Chase United ($2k) - 50K United Points
Citi Hilton Reserve ($2.5K) - 2 Weekend nights at any Hilton Hotel + $100 + Free Annual Night

If you are anything like I was, as a college student, you probably eat out a lot. Sapphire gives a 2x bonus on restaurants and waives first year AF.

This will give you potentially ~112K UA miles and 2 free nights at any Hilton in the world just from the bonuses. You could add some nights on either end and make a vacation out of it.

You could also add a couple more cards to your portfolio and pay your expenses on it to get those other nights for free too.

For perspective:
- It is 60K UA miles RT to Europe, 75K to South Pacific, 60K to South America etc.
- If you are going to get married within the year, you could have at least 2 but upto 3 nights at a top tier hilton property for your honeymoon worth upto 285K points or thousands of $.
