Probably a dumb question, but how do I view availibility and mileage cost for Air Lingus, Aeroplan (via Canada), and Iberia?

Do I just have to search for availibility through expert flyer and go off mileage charts? Do I then can in to book? Thanks.

Thanks to both you guys for the help. I'm in the initial phase of planning a Scotland tour. Hope to play the old course, do some Distillery tours, and go to the Highlands

Last year when United had the mistake fares I was going to do this exact tour but they cancelled our flights. Definitely still on the list. Big scotch drinker so I was pretty excited about it. Another time....

would love to get the amex platinum 100,000, but that isn't available now.

It's still available but it's generally by invite. There was a unique code that was available by invite but Amex was honoring it for those that called in with it. Doctor of credit wrote a blog post on it. I'll try to find it here shortly.

What other amex cards would you recommend (both of us have already had the golf)?

Business owner or aspirations to start one? The biz gold usually has a 75k offer with a 10k bonus for allowing it to be a credit card and not just a charge card. $175 fee waived year 1.

I use British airways site.
Amerikop is selling the Qantas site for ease of use and I'm pretty sure he's right it's better. I just am used to Going to BA site.

The key is knowing the routes.
You want to begin by searching the international leg. IM On my phone so can't go in to much detail but for Iberia you want to search:
MIA-MAD
ORD-MAD
JFK-MAD

Aer lingus:
BOS-DUB
NYC-DUB

Aeroplan codeshares with British airways but I'm not terribly familiar with the best routing to avoid LHR.

Unless this has changed recently - You ba will not show awards on Aer Lingus.

Best way to do that (imo) - is united.com. Look for BOS-DUB or BOS-SNN. You're looking for non stop saver award availability on flights operated by Aer Lingus. (Will be marked 30k on UA). This flight is 25K BA avios RT on coach and 50K in biz.

You're right. I forgot about that and SNN. Good call.

Just one or two domestic trips a week. Company flies me in F though so I haven't had a problem hitting whatever revenue metric they use to determine GS status.

What's funny is since I generally don't need to worry about upgrades or the other niceties of GS, all I care about is the ability to book award flights easily with the relaxed rules. The direct phone line with super experienced agents is also cool..for booking my crazy award itineraries.

Hey AmeriKop, I wasn't able to search leg by leg on the Qantas site for flights originating in Doha. Does that sound right to you? Like I can end in Doha, but I can't have Doha as the origin. Kind of weird. The full calendar is nice though.

After searching a bunch, I'm now just hoping united opens up some of their directs to/from EWR. Wife wants to swing by the Taj Mahal so a free stopover at DEL would be great.

I'm interested in this now. India is wild. An Indian wedding in India is probably nuts.

And you being Indian.

I want to hear the advice. See what I missed.

Ahh man, txtiger is in for a treat. I tell all my friends here - you gotta go to an Indian wedding. For starters, the "main events" last for 3 days straight. And there is a whole wedding procession with a marching band on public roads (guy's family/friends) while the groom rides to the wedding location on a horse. It's really something.

Look for DOH-DEL/BOM leg on ba.com if Qantas is not working. J is wide open DOH-DEL.

Nice. See if you can squeeze in 1 or all of the following: 1) Jaipur - this used to be a royal city of the kings back in the day. Plenty of cool forts with cool stories. Your kids will LOVE it. Agra has a few too. 2) Rajasthan - more royal family history. Camel rides, luxury camps in the desert etc. 3) Backwaters of Kerala- spend a night or two on a house boat. India being India all this is extremely affordable for a westerner.

If you're not a stickler for staying at a chain hotel, stay at the Oberoi Amarvillas in Agra. I am sure it will be one of, if not the best hotel experience you will ever have had. I'm not going to put it on too much of a pedestal for risk of falling short of expectations, but I am positive it won't. Its a very cultural and luxurious property. If you're going to be in Agra - definitely consider it.

What city is the wedding in? Let me know if you have any other questions. Happy to help.

Ya, I've heard all about them but I think I only have one Indian friend where I may catch an invite

Jaipur was a pretty cool city. Udaipur was also very neat. I could definitely see more of Rajasthan.

I hope you do. And if you do, definitely try to make it. The closer you are to the bride/groom the better. Regardless, if you were to go to an Indian wedding the family will obsess over making sure your comfortable and include you in everything I can guarantee you that! I'm sure txtiger will vouch for this in Dec

We need to fly into BOM for the wedding so award tix are a bit tighter. Most likely we will just have time for the wedding and one other site, which will probably be Agra. There's a chance I need to go over a few days later than my wife, so I haven't ruled out taking Singapore first or suites through Moscow/SIN from IAH while she takes the kids on some other routing that has 3 seats available.

I took a pretty sweet trip around Rajasthan when I was in college. We plan to take the kids again when they are older on a similar trip or maybe do palace on wheels with them.

Makes me wonder if you went through Gurgaon when you were in college.

I'd love to see your reaction to seeing it now.

Thing is, even if you went through it you probably didn't know it because nothing was probably there at the time.

I went to LSU for my UG Don't know too much about Gurgaon except that it is a commercial hub now.

Been tinkering with Aeroplan this morning. Their search engine is actually very impressive. Does a good job of showing exhaustive options with multiple connections on Star Alliance partners. Might become my go-to to search Star awards.

60/110 in Y/J from US to W.Europe. No YQ. Pretty Decent redemption imo. For ex: MSY>MXP in J was 110K+$110.

Search on aeroplan.com not air canada. Before you get any ideas - Singapore barely ever (read never) releases its F awards to partners. So no Suites w/o paying YQ

Need to check that site out. I used to use the ANA tool for Star but it went down for a bit a while back and I just haven't been back to see if it's working again.

Never been to Gurgaon. We did Agra, Jaipur, Udaipur, Jaiselmer, and Pushkar. Was pretty cool. My brother got sick as a dog in Pushkar. We now jokingly refer to it as the time his stomach exploded and blew out of both ends simultaneously.

Totally forgot about ANA. To the person who was flying to scotland on business with AMEX - ANA is actually your best and cheapest bet. ANA does pass down YQ though, so keep an eye out for that.

Find Star alliance routing on United or Aeroplan. If you tell me your rout, I can look at the award chart for you and tell you how many ANA (interchangeably MR) points you will need.
