Unfortunately the portals no longer work on gift cards. It's still a very easy way to MS some UR points.
As of when? I know it has claimed it wouldn't work for quite a while, but it still was last I bought a $100 Whole Foods gift card from Staples:
Here's your Shop through ChaseSM bonus earn activity:

They do say sometimes its good to "double back" on supposedly closed MS techniques.
I'll give it a try at least.

I just bought another WF card (girlfriend informed me at lunch today that the last one I gave her was running low
) so I'll update if I get the notification email in the next week or so.

Here's a rather specific question:
How do I get to Paris from DFW relatively inexpensively using Amex MR points? Travel dates are completely flexible, but shooting for some time this summer.
So far the best deal I've seen is to convert MR points to Aeroplan miles at 1:1. And book through Aeroplan. Round trip tickets are 60,000 miles in Economy, 90,000 in Business. By comparison the same dates on Delta's SkyMiles site would be 102,500 miles for economy.
ETA: For Amex PRG folks, it looks like the 15,000 MR bonus with 30,000 spend is still active, despite everything I've read. I got the card in November and the bonus posted to my account Monday, so maybe I was grandfathered in under the 2014 guidelines.

I was planning on getting the Hyatt card until I noticed it was only good up to a tier 4 property. Turned me off a bit.
that'll get you in the Hyatt Recency in NOLA, Houston, amongst other places so it's cool with me.

Aeroplan and Iberia Avios(You can transfer to British Avios then to Iberia Avios free) are your two primary options for minimal fuel surcharges and decent redemptions.
I haven't looked at Aeroplan in a while, but Iberia has a decent biz product and has directs to Madrid from NYC and MIA.

Nice. I got the Gold business card in Dec 14, but probably just shy of 20k spend and have actually shifted my spend off of it since I was under the impression the 15k bonus was no longer available.
I'm going to look in to that. Thanks.

Look into the Virgin Atlantic 25% transfer bonus Amex is currently offering.

Yep. There's some really good values at the Category 4 Hyatts. It can far exceed the $75 value.

Domestic/International travel?
Do you fly for business?
Closest hub you travel out of?
The AA cards are my favorite airline product as they tend to offer a lot of bonus opportunities and good redemption values with their off peak rates.
Domestic.
Yes.
STL first and then Chicago if STL doesn't have it. (AA I'm assuming)
I'm looking at AAs stuff, I've heard good things, was really looking for confirmation.
But STL does service a lot of shitwest. But overall they have solid AA stuff.

Looks like RT JFK to LHR in economy on Virgin Atlantic is 35,000 miles & $450.
So 28,000 MR points and $450. $450+280 = $730
not really maximizing MR points but it's fairly cheap

If you sign up through link, you get $1k in free swipes. Sign yourself up, then refer yourself or your wife if you have other bank accounts and then you get $1k for the referral and your wife(or other account) gets another $1k. So, with 2 bank accounts you can get $3k worth of free swipes. If you go over the free swipe limit, it's a 2.75% charge I believe. LINK
I'm good on cards for now, but maybe will do this once I pick up some new cards later this year. Still waiting to close on my condo

LINK They actually have some decent transfer partners if you fly internationally to places not called Europe or the Caribbean. Singapore Kris Flyer miles will likely be my go to choice for transferring as their award chart is pretty good for US/Asia travel and I can transfer AMEX/UR points to them as well. Very easy to stock up points. You can also redeem Thank You points and get a 1.6 cents per point if you book American Airlines flights. So, within the first year you can get a minimum value of $1,300 of flights for $450 and potentially a lot more if you can use the transfer partners. Solid card. Oh and yeah...stupid name.
Yeah, I flew a few of those airlines living in Thailand. So for American, it's like a reimbursement or something? I didn't see a transfer chart for AA, so I'm not sure but you said 1.6 cents per point. Or you book a revenue flight and then use the points to pay for it? Sorry for the dumb questions, I'm being lazy
But yeah, I use AA fairly often. I could get the $1,300 out of it so that's very worth it. And the lounges and Global is great too. As mentioned, I wish it had SPG Gold

FYI- Not sure how many of yall are big into Marriott... I have been checking every now and then for hotels in New Orleans for Mardi Gras weekend. To my surprise, after a couple months of trying, 2 finally popped up: The Ritz and Marriott- Convention Center (warehouse district). We were looking for a room just Saturday night. Marriott Convention Center is charging $619 for just Saturday. What I found awesome is that you can also use points and those aren't marked up due to the Mardi Gras weekend. 35,000 points for a Cat 7 hotel. That is nearly a 2 cent per point redemption right there.
Only drawback is no cancellation, which doesn't bother us because we are never doing anything for Mardi gras weekend.

This, I will add that between SPG & Marriott, I would rather pledge allegiance to SPG. I think they offer a better product overall.
Yep, unless you're a big Marriott guy, the SPG card is one of the best cards all around IMO. I get more AA miles with my SPG than I do with my Citi AA MasterCard
Only shitty United isn't 1:1 with their points of the big airlines and you get better hotels with Starwood.

QuestIon: how quickly do point rewards post?
Hitting up Miami in 2 months and just got the IHG Chase Card. Plan on hitting the 1K spend as soon as I get it then hopefully book a night with reward points. I've never done something this quick and normally it's 6-8 weeks to show up in your account, but if I spend the 1K and pay it right off, shouldn't it just go through then?

USUALLY the points will post almost immediately after your statement closes.
Delays do happen though, but never for me yet

I booked a room next year for 2 nights for Mardi Gras as well. 20k SPG points at Le Meridien. Not only did I get out of having to book 4 nights like almost all hotels usually require for Mardi Gras, but I saved $1,200.
