Will transfer the 40,000 points to my Marriott rewards card..
Beware, Marriott recently made some changes to their rewards program and have devalued their points from what they used to be.
Might want to check this out before going all in on Marriott

They really jacked up that reward.
I'm definitely not happy about it. Might just settle for business so I can have some leftover to work with. Figure I'll shoot for the moon and if I change my mind as booking comes up, I'll have options.
So very perturbed about their devaluation. I was golden but just getting started. Good lesson to learn early.

Exactly. 40k points will get you one night at some of the decent Marriot properties. Probably holds a value of $200-$300. Not a good transfer.

I just found out about the no annual fee for active duty. I'm calling all of my credit card companies today

Back to square one now.

It does suck, but at least you know now and haven't already done the deed.

I am so damn confused - I am thinking hard about sticking with a simple AmEx preferred blue and being done with it.
My problem is that I love to travel for work and personal....

Out of curiosity for likes of Chase Sapphire and others... If you are right at your year and you call to cancel before the annual fee kicks in, do they not try to keep you as a customer? Its not like other companies where they will give you a discount/waive fees in order to keep you a customer?
I've never cancelled a rewards card, so I wouldn't know

All the banks are different, and people have different experiences on varying cards within the bank.

Very cool! I'm glad that is done for the military.
If I was you I'd go on an app-bender!

It's derailed a good bit.
Think I should start a different thread about rewards and what others may be doing? A lot of people probably skip right over this one because the title definitely isn't what this thread pertains to at this point.

You should check out the AAdvantage Executive card as well.
$450 annual fee with $200 statement credit and 100k AA points, and Admirals Club right now.
You'd actually make money on that if you're not assessed the $450 annual fee.
The catch is you have to spend $10k in 3 months.

My wife and I are thinking about getting a credit card and using it to pay for everything to take advantage of point systems. I have NO CLUE which one we should get.

We need more info. What categories do you spend most in and what is your annual spend?
