Speaking of Cars. My AC went out again on my 1996 Civic. If the repairs come back over something like 200 im scrapping it.

However, I'm such a tight bastard that I am driving this hot box around for work and think if I can just get to fall/winter I can make it another seven months or so then buy another used one.

It's miserable being this way.

There is nothing wrong with being 70 and still working. I know plenty who do it for different reasons. Some do not want to drain their retirement(or use up all their passive income on retirement), some get bored so they have to do something. They enjoy what they do. Some vacation half the year and work the other half on their own schedule.

Of course there's nothing wrong with it. What I meant is that it appears that the OP will just forever be in debt with his mindset. He'll be 70 and will HAVE to work because he will still be in debt with car notes, a mortgage and financing what ever new cool gizmo is on the market in the far future. That is poor planning. Barring some unfortunate emergency or medical expense, there is no reason for a smart person to HAVE to work at 70.

Thankfully this summer has been much cooler than last year. It is almost like a game, personal challenge, etc. You know you can go get what you want, but will it make you happy after you do it? I feel your pain. Reliability and A/C have to be at or near the top of the list of "must haves" in the Deep South.

If money doesn't make you happy then you aren't spending it right

Credit card and bull shite debt??quote: Solid plan for the op He doesn't think he's in a bind. His burden to bear. He'll be 70 one day still working and in debt, watching his buddies take it easy, take vacations, play golf everyday and sleeping late. The only debt I've ever owed was on my truck. Bought it 6 months after I finished at LSU and had it paid off within a year and a half. It was a 35k truck. I pay my own insurance, fund my own retirement (and it's doing fantastic), and have 100k+ to put on a home downpayment when i decide to buy. I work on the road in refineries. It's a cushy job so it's not painful to work a lot, and I get as much OT as I want. One of these days I'll propose to my girlfriend of 8 years when she finishes her PhD and I'm home for good. And we'll start off married life with a gorgeous home on 10 acres, with high income potential, nearly (if not 100%) debt free. All because I looked ahead when I was 18 graduating high school and knew where I wanted to be after college.

Sweet you got it going on bro...

I have been in the same situation. I was in between jobs, had premature twins spend 3 weeks in the hospital and racked up over 50k in CC debt. I cut every card I own up and now have less than 15k in cc debt. My truck was paid off last month and my plan is to be debt free in 5 yrs.

Who ever mentioned Discover card they wouldn't work with me either.

Second job. Eliminate unnecessary expenses (going out to eat etc.). STAY DISCIPLINED and pay that shite off. NEVER EVER again finance a GD vacation!!!!!!!!!!!! Save ahead of time. Pay off highest interest card first then take all that money and move on down the line.

What is your political affiliation?
