I’m an independent contractor and health insurance for blue cross is extremely expensive. Does anyone have this insurance or one similiar and has actually used it??

I know some people that had one of them (can't recall which one). They asked me to look at it which is why I know as much as I do. Anyway, their premiums went from like $2500/month to like $650/month. Doctors visits were like $85. All in all, if you don't have chronic stuff it seems to be good, but it has a max benfit.

Do you have a link or a name? I just heard someone talking about that this morning.

I think there is a 1 year transition period as well. So year 1 you pay in your premiums but won’t have access to the “shared” benefit (so don’t get cancer year 1.) Year 2 and on though once you’ve met your deductible and have an event, the shared benefit would kick in.

All in all it seems extremely interesting to me and I suspect we will likely see more types of plans like this enter the market, especially since there’s no more mystical “penalty” for not having an ACA compliant policy.

I'm in the same boat, I do it and some cheap $40 short term health insurance to cover for disasters. I'm young and healthy without dependents, and haven't had to use either just yet but seems like a no brainer for people in our boat.

My family has it. We pay $480 / month (me, wife, son). Deductible is $3750. We pay out of pocket for everything. Sick dr visit was $75. Pharmacy prescriptions are never over $100.

After deductible is met, they pay all.

The whole they don't cover anything year 1 isn't true. If you're in real good shape and not a fatty like me, you can get it lowered $80 / mo.

Just curious, who is they and how do they guarantee that they will pay all? That's my concern about these types of plans.

Yea I feel like it’s the way to go if you are young and healthy. The rates are insanely cheaper

They = the company.

Stop being skeptical about everything, grandpa.

Medishare has paid 100% of all claims ever filed with them; I think it's over $200 million or something. They (MEDISHARE) doesnt claim to be insurance to protect themselves from government regulations. There's nothing hard to comprehend about that.

They just issued their audited annual statement and indicate the amount of reserves they have. I had the same question. They seem to be doing really well.

Good. Transparency and solvency would have been my only concerns, but I’m glad they addressed it.
