The Amazon part is the rumor that they had been hearing at Capital One for some time now.
So does that mean NOLA will get an Amazon Bank? Since we have all these Capital One locations.
Funny how life works. Capital One got into branch banking by buying Hibernia. Before that they were just credit cards and loans. The idea was actually to keep the Hibernia brand and expand it. While due diligence was occurring, Katrina hit. They went through with the purchase but decided to brand everything with the Capital One stuff. Now that company could they themselves be purchased by an entity with no experience in the area.

layoffs
Here's an article from January. It's stating that Capital One sold their brokerage division to E Trade.

I don't get why they would lay off FAs based on selling online self-directed accounts. I could see some back office jobs going away.

Capital One is not your typical bank. They don't carry many traditional bank products. You can get a car loan or a credit card that's it. They have been closing branches this last year. This makes them perfect to become an online bank giant. This is what makes since that amazon could buy them.

Not the FAs selling... the company selling the accounts to e-trade... sorry my English was not awesome with that sentence =)

What a prophetic slogan.
No one is sure what’s in their wallet.

Capital One still has a very sizable commercial lending operation.
