Wish I could.

I worked as a private guitar instructor for a few years as well. Asked for $100/month per student. Have an in-house studio, and you reap all the profits. Normal lessons are 30 minutes each, so working a half-week of work (20 hours) is about $4000 a month. That's the number I hit before giving it up.

Not really... I know O&G folks are taking a hit right now. However, it is not extremely uncommon at all. Hell, a lot of the Pete student are $100k right out of the gate.

I appreciate it. We just have an understanding and common financial goals. I think finances are more about planning than anything. Can't reach a goal if you don't have a plan to get there.

Hoping we can stick to it.

So you dont think making 120k at 27 is uncommon. I would say it is under 1% of people I guess we have a different definition of uncommon

I think people outside of O&G completely underestimate the pay scale in O&G. They hear about it, but don't want to believe it.

The salary inflation is getting ridiculous. New grads are making more than 3 yr employees at the same company unless they are adjusted. $100k out of school is not uncommon at all for these jobs. Qualified candidates may be uncommon, as in the top tier of their class, but the jobs and salaries are there.

I understand people make this. But it is still the very definition of uncommon

I guess I'm blinded by O&G. I work with a number of geologists and engineers under 30 making well over that.

I think alot of people on this board are. I understand people make that money, but it is extremely rare. Only 20% of US households make over 100k. So the % of 27 yr old individuals would be less than 1%. Prolly less that .5%

I wouldn't want to swap lifestyles with my O&G buddies. I'll stick to my 4-10's. They miss a lot of shite being on the rigs 2-3weeks at a time.

Just remember that this whole "uncommon for 27" discussion started because someone didn't believe posts in this thread. As I've mentioned numerous times, the demographics of this website and this particular board probably favor educated individuals. It is by no means representative of the general US population.

There are a lot of engineers, accountants, lawyers, consultants and other professionals that post here and those are the types of salaries you see in this thread.

Here's another misconception. Not everyone is on a 14/14. I work 8-5 M-F, and I visit my fields once a quarter.

We are by default talking about a very partitioned portion of society by the default of the assumptions being made:

1) Went to 4 year college. Only ~6% of the population LINK

quote:

As of 2012, the latest figures available in 2015, the US has a total of 4,726 Title IV-eligible, degree-granting institutions: 3,026 4-year institutions and 1,700 2-year institutions.[1] The US had 21 million students in higher education, roughly 5.7% of the total population.[4] About 13 million of these students were enrolled full-time which was 81,000 students lower than 2010

2) Majored in Business (Finance/Accounting), Computer Science, Engineering, or Other (go off to grad school in medical field or law or start own business) - Maybe 30% of all college graduates?

That's 1.8% of total population.

3) And the people that get the jobs we are talking about are typically top ~20% of their major....

So 0.4% of the population fits using back of the envelope math.

Shows how much the MTB skews relative to gen pop

Well I can't speak on your schedule. Just on my friend's who have been out of school for 2-3 years. They'll eventually move into an office/manager role, still be making bank and improve their lifestyles. But for now, I will continue to make myself feel better about making a shitty comparable salary

Females enrolled at a higher rate (71.3 percent) than males (61.3 percent) (source). In fall 2014, some 21.0 million students are expected to attend American colleges and universities, constituting an increase of about 5.7 million since fall 2000 (source).

^ according to google

6% of the population is in higher education RIGHT now.

That doesn't mean that 6% of the population has a higher education degree. That number is in the 30%s probably pushing 40 now.

First google result

quote:

Nearly 40 percent of working-aged Americans now hold a college degree, according to a new report from the Lumina Foundation. In 2012, 39.4 percent of Americans between 25 and 64 had at least a two-year college degree.Apr 22, 2014

This counts two years. So we know it's between 6 and 40.
