This makes no sense to me. This is what they told you? I've worked in banking for almost 20 years and have never seen or heard of something like this happening. I'm not saying you are making it up...just sounds crazy it would happen to someone, especially at a large bank.

Yeah, that's ridiculous. That would only make sense to me if you were trying to cash that in dollar coins or something absurd like that.

Now, if you don't have accounts there, I can see some tellers BSing you just so you go to another branch. Is it possible that they didn't know you were a customer of the bank?

I can see it if the branch is low on large bills and/or the vault teller is out of the branch, but two branches?

What I meant was the teller might say, "I don't want to part with a lot of cash for a non-customer, so let me see if I can get this guy to leave".

They're not supposed to do this but I can see it happening.

That's really screwy then. I would never tell an account holder that we don't have 15K in cash, especially one with large balances.

I do remember getting to the end of a Friday and the head teller saying we had 30-40K total left in the branch (all teller drawers combined and in the vault) but I would never tell you that!

Too old to be considered a chick. More like a well seasoned hen.

I've always just written a check to cash and given it to the teller.
