Seems to be beneficial for getting rewards but was wondering if there was any catch or negatives from experience?

I use it and have put over $100 in my bank account. I use to use it lot for gas but I have the Walmart app now and use it for gas but I still find some really good deals at one restaurants like Dominoes and Taco Bell. No hassle for me.

Yes, I have used it for getting gas. I don’t go out of my way to go to participating gas stations, but if I’m in the area and already going to a gas station that participates on the upside app then I’ll check in and get the rewards.
I just get the rewards emailed to me as an Amazon gift card code. Haven’t had any issues with it

I use it for gas. Work pays for gas, so anything accumulated on this app is free money. Just crossed the $200 mark. Need to get it out of there.

I had it a few years ago, and I also had another app that showed the cheapest gas around. Upside consistently would give the discounts at the more expensive stations. So it seemed kind of pointless.

Plus their commercials are f ucking aggravating.

I use it for gas when it’s worth it. If the cash back is like 10 cents I’ll do it. But if it’s like 1 cent a gallon which I’ve seen a few times I don’t even bother.

But it’s a legit app they will transfer your cash directly to your bank account

Used to be good, now it sucks because the discounts are under .10 everywhere

Yeah, it's been a while since discounts were more than a few cents. And what's worse is now they nerf the discount if they know you tried to stack with another discount, like a loyalty rewards program for that particular gas station. I used to get 10¢ per gallon off at race trac and stacked with 10-15¢ rebate from upside and that would add up nicely.

You'd think with gas prices going up so much that they'd be less stingy with the rebates, but nope.

You have to choose it before you get to the location… there is a big difference

I just started using it today. Wish I’d have started a few years ago to take advantage of work paying for fuel.

you know you guys are selling your personal data for a few pennies a gallon right? Data that results in a purchase is so valuable that entire companies are building multibillion dollar moats based just on that

are a few pennies better than zero pennies? I guess but don’t be surprised when you start getting marketed to based on that

I have had Upside for 4 years and haven’t had any negative experiences like this.

I also haven’t experienced the participating gas stations to be the “more expensive” gas stations either.

I really don’t get the hate for Upside. It’s free money. You don’t have to change your daily routine at all. If I’m already buying gas anyway, why wouldn't I take 5 seconds to tap "check in" and get cash back?

They’re getting paid through kick backs from the gas stations/restaurants that participate.

A quick google search shows over 35 million users on the app.
Upside is earning some interest on my rewards balance, as well as their millions of other users rewards balances.

That’s how they make money.
