Suppose Joe Blow makes a loan for a house or a car or whatever.

How many installments on the loan does he have to send in on a timely basis in order to score a positive comment on an Equifax-type credit report?

I'd say at least 12. This is coming from someone who looks at credit daily.

What do you mean by "positive comment?" Every month you're not 30 days late your account will be noted as "pays as agreed." My Equifax FICO score immediately increased when my mortgage showed up on my report. The FICO scoring models like to see a mix of credit, mortgage accounts being part of that.
