I just purchased a house in Central and want to get a system down to start gaining rewards for all my purchases.
I would like to develop a system where I am using two credit cards. One for everyday(cash back) and a card for recurring payments such as bills and subscriptions(travel). I am trying to find the best cards for the job. Just trying to use these instead of no rewards debit purchases. Also, we don't travel and use hotels that often.

Spending:
350 month groceries
20-250 month gas
100-200 anything else
~500 bills, recurring

Everyday:
AMEX Blue cash preferred
6% supermarkets
3% gas
1% everything
75 annual

Discover IT
5% revolving
1% everything
0 annual

Chase Freedom
5% revolving
1% everything
0 annual

Any other choices?

Recurring:
AMEX Blue Sky
startup of 30K points ($400)
1.33 points everything
0 annual

Cap One Venture
2x points
59 annual

any other choices?

My concerns are:
- We shop at Sams club every so often and they don't take AMEX
- Walmart and Target style stores don't get 6% back on AMEX
- Blue Sky has higher bonus plus 0 annual which is nice initially and instantly having $400
- Venture is a better by 50 dollars a year with the 59 annual

Any other system would be greatly appreciated. I have an excellent credit score so I can apply to all of these.

PS: I've also looked into the PenFed gas card but I don't know if I want to keep up with a third card and constantly remember to use it. Though I only really have to remember to ACTUALLY use two cards since the travel card is only with recurring payments.

edit: I am also a member of a discount club that gives me a % back on most stores booked through them. This includes Best buy, Home Depot and pretty much every store imaginable. I would like to combine my % back from the card and this membership to reap maximum benefits.

I looked at AMEX FAQ about supermarkets. Does Oakpoint count towards these? It was not in their list and it is a small local grocery store.

If you don't travel or stay in hotels, a cash back card works well for you. (AMEX Blue Cash in this instance)

You can always buy WalMart gift cards using AMEX Blue and then use those cards at Sam's Club. I've done that often when I had to meet certain spending requirements for my AMEX cards. If you can find WMT gift cards at supermarkets, you are in essence getting 6% back on your Sam's Club purchases.

Ha! I don't have a rewards card but should probably break down and get one.

Here's some other advice though: don't throw clumps of dirt toward the lake. I know a lady who will call the HOA and tell them you're throwing dog turds in the lake.

Yeah, that's the guy I'm thinking of. I don't know him but know OF him. You know the ex LSU football player that lives by them? I know him well and work with him.

Wait until Costco opens later this year in BR and you can get an AMEX free with membership.

AMEX has good customer service. I'm impressed.

I get about $400 per year in rewards around Feb but I also use my AMEX everywhere that accepts it and pay the balance to 0 every month.

Not a bad deal at all.

I like the combo of Amex with a MasterCard as my backup.

I have never been to a place that doesn't take MasterCard

I haven't seen too many MC cash backs. Is there a back up I should consider? Maybe the Discover IT?

Amex and Discover are the least accepted of the 4 Major CC companies.

I know there used to be a MasterCard version of the Chase Freedom... But I don't know if it still exists

If you don't go to Sam's club a Visa will suffice as your backup card

If you do go to Sam's Club this is probably your best bet

I do not know if anyone has suggested this card or not:

AMEX Hilton Honors

I have had it for about 11 years and put most everything I purchase on it plus many recurring bills and pay off monthly.
I virtually never pay for a hotel room and often give my adult children free nights at various hilton products.
