Anyone have any problems with getting what flights you want with your miles? I’m hearing that some airlines are being stingy on how many seats that make available for mile redemption.

The ultimate depends.

I've mostly been able to put something together. Some airlines are stingy. Some destinations/routes are hard to get. But overall there's usually a way to find business class for two people. More than that is more difficult.

If you're flying economy it's pretty easy to redeem points anywhere. But it's subjective on if it's driving value for YOU.

Caveats are since the pandemic some airlines (mostly Asian carriers that I can tell) have no availability. Could be capacity issues etc due to their lockdown/quarantine rules. Before I could find something on ANA/JAL/Cathay pretty easily.

The thing people don't appreciate is it can sometimes take me 10 hours or more to hunt a routing that works, think of all options etc. It's not a login and book five minutes sort of hobby. Some third-party tools are trying to change that though.

Subtle brag: "Member Since: 1958"
Makes my 1982 start date crawl back in it's cave.

My date is actually me starting with AMEX on my own.

I'll stick out the Platinum renewal fee increase, I'm comfortable with them.

Sell me on the Venture? I see 10x points on hotels, but they have to be booked through their site. How good is their site? Don't need the 5x airmiles, bc I have Amex Plat Also, how far do their points go?

I outlined the benefits above. It pays for itself with little effort (actually I think you end up ahead in value)

Their points are 100 = $1, so each year you get 10k points, which equals a $100 statement credit.

The current signup bonus is 75k points if you spend $4k in the first 3 months.

I called to downgrade in January at renewal time and they offered me $400 statement credit for $3k spend in 3 months.

In February I called to cancel my Plat after the first year and they offered $550 credit for $4k spend, which I took.

Downgraded back to the gold card, which is more beneficial for me now that I don't travel as much anyway. $250/year but comes with $120 in Uber credits and $10/month dining credit which just that is worth it.

They offered statement credit of $450 and 40k points but still wasn't worth it to me.

I wish they'd make it easier to use the airline credit

I've used it the last 2 years to buy Travel Bank dollars on United. 2x$100 transactions. Has been credited each time no prob.

I get my annual fee reimbursed through Morgan Stanley otherwise it would be hard to justify at that price. I'd probably move to the Venture X
