And it was used because a poster challenged everyone to find even one time that the play led to a TD in a big spot or even just a big gain.

It is used as an example because in a run heavy defense, it creates room by slowing flow to the middle.
You see running room on this play???

Now that I can agree with.

ot only that it went for about 1 yd for those of you who defend that pointless play.
I was embarrassed that we worked all summer long for what looked like a botched nervous play...
Horrible and I am usually positiger...but good gracious we have to do better
I hope it was a player miscue...awkward at best

Those who cannot see the benefits of the toss dive are morons and should be shunned.

It's not so much the play as it is the predictability of play calling.Opposing defenses seem keyed in on what's coming.

We start every single game with a pitch or hand off, usually off left tackle
this one went up the middle, almost running over the qB

Doesn't matter how much talent you have there needs to be creativity to beat equal talent teams.

Went for a TD on 5th down against Tennessee in 2010.

It is actually a compliment to the stretch play. Show weak lead, pop back into strong ISO. Very cool concept
While I am considered a negatiger I do love to run the football...I just wish we would be less stubborn at times with our gameplans...you know the ones in the games we have lost

Seriously. Go be a fan of another team.
My reaction after some rantard post about the first play of the year:

Be nice to set up the run with the pass once and awhile

Your scholarship is impressive to say the least. Who else would have studied each and every play run by each and every one of these coaches to prove a point?
Huzzah to you!

Did you not see the flow created to the outside by the play? Watch it again. Watch the action suck three UT players outside into cut blocks. The play created a one on one matchup for one yard. Ridley won it. Did exactly what it was designed to do.
56 was influenced by the toss and took himself out of the play. On an ISO or lead, he would have blown up the play. Great call, adequate execution. UT gunna UT.

Why?
Discussion is not allowed on this board? If you have noticed, in this discussion between a few other posters and myself the comments have been very civil. You are the first one to hurl insults.

Because that play never works, right? J Hill's 50 yarder to bury USCe 2012 was nothing short of miraculous considering the play call right? In fact every time that play works is a flat out fluke, huh? It has as much chance of working as an onside kick, is that right?
The play works more than it doesn't. Start paying attention.

I'm not going to read thru this entire stupid thread, but has anyone mentioned it looked like they were running read-option? Also, 3 true frosh in on offense; a pass to Guice (liked the play call, not the result; block missed?)
Defensively, my heart always warms when I see blitzers taking running starts.
However, bottom line, I don't think you can take away too much, good or bad, from 5 minutes.
