LOL@you. Do you actually believe the defensive coordinators have LSU on the right track? There is so much confusion out there, the kids don't have a freaking chance. Do you like the product you see? Can you honestly say it's going in the right direction? Hell no. LSU is ranked below LOUISVILLE in total D, despite playing three cupcakes, Auburn, Moo U, SCe

That's OK, you can LOL@me all you want Tepperlini!! LSU is learning a slightly modified scheme, we've had several key injuries to the DL, where it all starts. Plus Freshman romping around in the Defensive Backfield. Freshman + College level play + slight modifications to the Defense can cause confusion. In 2009 LSU will be much, much better on Defense IMO.

Not true. Louisville's Total defense is ranked #35, LSU' Total Defense is ranked #21. When did SEC teams become cupcakes? What's South Carolina's record?

BTW, LSU's Total Offense is Ranked #33, yet alledged #1 team Bama - Total Offense is ranked #61. Which is better? I could list 60 teams that are better offensively than Bama. Game's Saturday we'll find out.

Umm... you are the one that claimed we lucked into the 2003 championships. All championships when you lose a game take luck. Hell, even when you don't lose a game it (Auburn 2004), it matters where some pencil dick reporters and SID's put you in a preseason poll.

Reality is that both were NCs. One with 2 losses another with one.

In 2003 there were 3 legitimate 1-loss teams. The rest all had 2 losses. In 2007, there were 7+ 1 or 2-loss teams that had a legitimate gripe. I never said LSU didn't deserve it, but fact is we lost two games (the only thing in our control were the 13 we played). It took all the other teams losing twice to even give us a shot after what we did with our control.

As for you thinking I love Saban? I don't. I hate him. I've had to personally deal with him. As a human being, he's a piece of garbage, but I respect his coaching ability. He didn't have 6 defensive coaches, 3 offensive coaches, and 1 special teams coach when he knew his weakness was on the offense, did he? That is the point. Even last season, we had 4 defensive coaches to six offensive coaches. Eventually, with younger players that will take its toll.

Where does it stand?

I'd say I'm cautious right now.

Decreasing, dramatically.

Why should it waver? This man has stood up for evrything LSU. Oh and He Stayed. I would go to battle with him any day. If it is because of our losses this year that's just stupid.

Excuse me. Scoring defense. Which is much worse.

LSU gave up 163 total yards to a Tulane team. Bama allowed 319 total yards to a Tulane team.

Which Defense gave up more yardage?

Give it up. Trying to compare LSU to Alabama this year is ridiculous and stupid. Bama beat Georgia in Athens. Held them scoreless while racking up 31 points while the game was still in doubt. There's no comparison. Saban has had a season and the better part of a second one, and one real full recruiting class, and he's put together a team that is going to destroy us in six days, finish the regular season undefeated, and probably play a hell of a game with Florida for the SEC championship.

Making the decision to promote Malveto significantly undermined any confidence I had in Miles. Saying what he's saying about it is undermining it more. If there's not a change, I'll have completely lost confidence in him. This is Gerry DiNardo 1998 until Miles demonstrates otherwise.

only way there is a change is to fire one of them or Lane. Well there is one other way and that would be to fire an offensive coach and that ain't going to happen. Best case scenario right now is to demote one of them, but that won't solve our problems.

Do you idiots actually expect Miles to get up at a press conference and pin our defensive struggles on the coaching staff? Do you people routinely throw people you work with under the bus in public? I'll bet that just does wonders for morale and confidence in the office. Don't be stupid. This will get handled behind closed doors, whatever the outcome. We will not hear anything about it until the final decisiond are made. I would lose respect for Miles if he did call out his staff publically.

He had me after the 05 Hurricane stuff he got the program through. Still the same, Les is a great coach and will keep LSU strong for years

Misey, I never referred to his not calling out the DCs. I said the only way to get a DC would be to fire an assistant coach. There is a limit in place on the number of coaches a team can have and LSU is at the max.

I just don't see Miles firing them. It's not like him.

I don't like the Co DC, but i will at least give him a chance to fix the problem if things do not improve the rest of the season. Not much you can do about the qb problem. They are young and just need to learn. RP was supposed to be our QB for at least another year, so these guys were thrown in early.

GeauxBob, you really need a beer. In my little circle of friends, Miles is teased but respected. 'm good with that.

Ask your Michigan friends how much they're wishing Miles would've returned to the Big House.

And ask your USC friends how they like having top tier recruiting classes every year and see Carroll choke on the big ones.

And ask your OU friends how they view Stoops' ability to win the big one.

Miles is quirky, hardheaded, loyal, honest, and our athletes love him. AND HE WINS GAMES. I can't think of much else I want in a coach.

lsufaninmd, I think Miles is a great coach, but just think he's old school and loyalty means alot. I meant more that logistically, we are locked in on the defensive side of the ball because we already have 6 coaches dedicated to offense (if you count Miles) and 1 to special teams. That leaves three assistants to coach the defense. It's tough to do with only three full-time defensive coaches.

I hope Miles will do the right thing in the end, but it won't be easy on him.

On a scale of 1-10, about a 7 now. Before the season a 10. Great recruiter. His AC hires on the offense side last year were great.

The one thing that concerns me is not how poorly the D has played this far nor the co-DC thing but that he has not conveyed (at least to the public) any sense of urgency to rectify things on defense.

I get the impression that Les feels that Pelini's defenses over the past three years set the standard and the challenge is to get this year's outfit up to that standard. Les doesn't seem to have a vision of dominance on defense.

here is my take-
i feel that this entire season is HIS fault. that being said, it all depends on how next season goes.

we have a GREAT o-line, why don't we run the ball, then run the ball some more, and again run the ball? then when the d line and line backers are tired let the YOUNG RED SHIRT FRESHMAN read a tired defence!

tell all four of the d backs to cover the recievers for 3-4 seconds, and send the rest of the house to POUND the quarter back!

co-dc? enough said there.

where is the mean and nasty defence? i'll be damned if a team is going to hang 50 on us and the quarter back doesn't get his uniform dirty! make them pay-take a 15 yarder to cork screw the q back into the ground, then for the rest of the game he is looking over his shoulder waiting to get hit.

who is really calling the offensive plays? let the o.c. do his job. when he was with la tech and byu his numbers were always @ the top.

les seems to have forgotten that we play in the s.e.c. and not in the small 10.

My level of trust in Miles has decreased a lot b/c of the defensive situation. I think it was a huge mistake (easy to say in hindsight, of course) to not go get an established DC after last season. A lot of my loss of confidence is that I don't think he'll make a change after the season, but I hope I'm wrong.

That said, Miles recruits so well and he did such a wonderful job picking our OC (I like Crowton a lot) that I think we'd be way, way worse without him than with him, even with incompetent DCs

You don't back into anything in football! Everyone plays their schedule and not all teams end the season at the same time. So what if someone beats the #1 team in it's last game, it counts as much as if that team lost a week earlier.

Back into....bullshite!

I expected to be competitive in the 2 or 3 games lost, and expected the team to be getting better by now.

I watched every second of the Florida game and every play of the second half of the Georgia game. You're correct in that we weren't in the Florida game very soon into the second half. However, the Georgia game was very competitive throughout most of the game. Georgia played well enough to keep it just out of reach, but we were coming back when the second pick 6 happened. Three plays: the two pick 6s and the long run by Moreno, and we win that game 38-31.

It was much more competitive than the final score indicates. LSU outpassed UGA 309 to 249, while UGA only outrushed LSU 194 to 188. UGA committed more penalties, with the only glaring differences between the two in UGA's favor were turnovers and pts off of turnovers.
