The CHEER (GO TIGERS) has been around for many many years, I graduated in 70. When expressed in written form, it is sorta logical that the slang would have taken the eaux version.

It didn't start in the 90s. When I was a young child in the early 80s I remember we had a Geaux Tigers bumper sticker on one of our cars.

If he can win the SEC and contend for a NC, great. I don’t see it but I’d love to be wrong.
Having said that, and this isn’t fair to the guy, I think his appearance and voice contribute to an unfortunate stereotype of LSU.
