Son, how would you define elite? wins/losses? final season ranking? amount of unreal players on a team? You seem to be switching your criteria around here, kiddo.

See, I thought you were saying we were mediocre, by the way you, you know, said we were mediocre.

Saban took THIRTEEN pre-season 1st and 2nd team sec players into the 2004 season and got us THREE losses........that ain't mediocre?

I assume you are talking to me. I never switched anything. I simply said 2004 was not elite for lsu, nor were three out of four of the other years under saban. Since you ask, I would call finishing in the top 5 in the country elite....obviously the number of wins a team has determines whether they will finish top 5...

again, my entire argument was that all you saban lovers said he left lsu as an elite program and miles has killed it. That is false. Saban had one elite year in five years at lsu. Period.

Something is not adding up here. You say saban is a great coach, who recruited great talent....then what happened in 2002 and 2004? Especially 2004....were the players not coached up? They were clearly loaded with future nfl players...and if saban is that great, what happened? Was the competition tougher then? Help me here.

Every Saban recruit graduated,
Bo P moved on to NE,
The Evil One went to AL,
QB for 3 years straight or Crowton had Coached every Qb 100%

So Bo Pelini, you mean the guy that gave up what about 27 points a game in 2007 (just guessing)?

Actually Saban went to AL in 2007, you know, the year miles won the NC.

You are wrong, not all of saban's guys had graduated in 2008.

QB is the correct answer. Plain and simple. See florida, texas this year, oklahoma, usc last year...tenn every year lately...it happens.

But, no one was arguing the 2008 or 2009 was elite......obviously 2005-2007 were elite.

so why isn't that an excuse for Saban in 2004?

I didn't say it wasn't....it is reality. But when you use it at lsu it's the coaches fault.

Again, my entire point was to point out that saban only had one elite year at lsu in his five years, so to say he left them as an elite program is compelte bs. he left them in good shape no doubt, and miles did his part to coach them up so that they would go on to finish top 5 for three years in a row after that.

IT IS NOT ABOUT THE NUMBERS, it is about the manner in which our team is playing which is a direct reflection from coaching

And I have to agree with this. LSU has top tier talent and explosive playmakers - teams that we are supposed to blow out, we usually squeak by for 3 quarters then have a score or two late that doesn't really reflect how the team played during the game.

Against the more talented teams, upper-crust if you will, it's just the opposite - we're kicking their hinneys all over the place in the first quarter, second quarter and it looks like we might run away with it...then something happens:

they let up...
start making boneheaded mistakes...
letting the play clock run down and looking like the damn keystone cops...
QB's can't throw the ball...anywhere....
receivers dropping balls....
people stop tackling...
OL starts getting beat....
adjustments aren't made in-game or at halftime....

I could go on and on.

Fact is, talent-wise, LSU has a damn strong team...why is it that they can't seem to put it all together?

Yes, we can attribute it to coaching but I don't think we can lay it all at Miles' feet. Sure, he's the man-in-charge and has ultimate say...but I refuse to believe that he has his fingers in everyone else's pie all game long. One coach cannot call the offense and defense and special teams...it's too much for one person.

I also think some of the blame can be attributed to the players as well. If we have such strong leadership on the D...why didn't they change some of the alignments in-game? What about the offense? Are they just calling plays and leaving it at that? Why aren't they huddling on the sidelines and discussing the last series or sharing what they're seeing so proper adjustments can be made? Am I asking too much????

The defensive performance in the Auburn game is squarely on Chavis. I like him and all but that had to be the worst defensive scheme I have ever seen! Ever!!!! 400+ rushing yards, are you kidding me?!?!?!?

The offensive woes continue and I will repeat what I have always said...Crowton sucks and HE NEEDS TO GO!! Not tomorrow, not next week or next year...RIGHT NOW! Plain and simple. I don't care what anyone says.."oh, he needs a seasoned QB...blah...blah...blah." I call bullshite.

This team should still be undefeated and with all this talent...they should be mopping the field with their opponents. It isn't happening and it's extremely frustrating.

I agree with you. I am in my mid 20's and i argue with the fans of my generation all the time. I attended my first tiger game at four r five and we got beat my colorado state but thats when my love for the tigers began. Not all fans the are my age or younger are ignorant about tiger footbal but there are too many that know nothing about the history of the LSU tigers.they have never heard of things like billy cannons halloween run or the earthquake game. They grew up idolizing teams like Miami and the creminoles. and now they are jumping on the tiger ban wagon and want to bitch because we are "elite" anymore and how saban was so great. They didnt forget what we true lsu fans went through under coaches like holleman and dinardo.they werent around . they werent even lsu fans until it became the cool thing to do. I am not a huge miles fan but i respect what he has done at lsu and I hate how our fanbase doesnt want to give hime credit for anything he has accomplished. He did win a nation title and one thing i love about the man is his loyalty and his integrity. he one ups lil nicky in that category.

with all the saban stats compared to Miles stats, i have to ask those who defend Miles, Do yall really think that Miles is a better coach than Saban? I hate Saban but im not going to be stupid enough to think Miles is even close to being as good as Saban. And for the post about how you dont read post that are not spelled correctly and shite..... do you enjoy listening to Miles with his stupid talk?

First you say

quote:

Yes, I still think LSU is a top 5 program.....their recruiting speaks of that. Regardless of records this year, the top teams in the country imo are alabama, florida, lsu, texas, oklahoma and ohio state....it used to be usc but i think you will see that no more....that is it imo as far as elite teams.....

Then you say

quote:

I would call finishing in the top 5 in the country elite

Is LSU elite or not? Cause LSU sure as hell hasn't finished in the top 5 the last two seasons, and it looks like it will be a third.
