IF JR wrote that, he spent more time writing the article than he spent on the playbook/practice field in Oakland.
I'd bet it was written by a Professional Ghostwriter preparing the public for a TV Documentary or movie.

Phenomenal talent & great player. He single handedly came in vs Oregon State in '04 and won the game for us as a freshman. I think he thought that he could just show up in the pro's and be great and that obviously doesn't work.

I'd heard similar from a player at the time... if Jamarcus had more instinct/ability to read defenses, he'd have been unstoppable

This is a work ethic thing that he seemed to lack. He was probably the most physically gifted QB in LSU history.

Russell should have about $15 million in the bank (actually a lot more since the stock market went ballistic, up 300% since he stopped playing).

he shoulda had easily 70% of that money in cash flowing real estate and dividend paying funds/stocks to live off off. the rest for emergency( yeah i know), spending on SOME wants, helping his mother, etc.

he shoukd be set for life.

most these guys have ZERO financial sense and are broke before long.

That was a damn good, well written story. It's nice to see that he still has a 4M net worth.

LSU lost to Tennessee after Rita, but yeah it was a top 5 matchup IIRC.

Pretty much the only bad team an LSU team lost throughout the 3 years of Russell tenure and at the time it didn't look that way. Not to mention, that game was weird. Looked liked we were going to run away with it in the first half and the just didn't have any gas in the tank in the second half.

Underrated part of his college game was how he destroyed teams without elite talent in the secondary. LSU simply beat the teams they were supposed to beat with him at QB. There were no losses like 2007 Kentucky/Arkansas, 2008 Ole Miss/Arkansas, 2009 Ole Miss, and 2013 Ole Miss.

Zing!

Most of these players tribunes are transcribed by a professional writer who listens to the player tell his/her unfiltered story.

I never forget the 2005 opener against Arizona State, JaMarcus threw that long pass last minute TD to win the game.
The 2006 Tennessee comeback Win was awesome too as well as the 2005 win over Bama.

Idk if anyone has mentioned it but I was in the dome for the sugar bowl.

That one throw where he was scrambling to the sideline and threw like 40 yards across his body was insane.

In 2006 he was probably the best QB in the country and I would say he had a great season that year. 2005 was pretty good too got to the SECCG and got trounced by Georgia but he had a very good year then as well.

I don't take offense at his making what you might call "excuses". Everybody has their own truths to deal with and I wish him the best. I'm 74 and the truths I grew up with were much gentler with fewer hard edges to deal with. Good luck, Mr. Russell.

We should honor him at the Tennessee game this year. That 2006 game is one of my most favorite memories as a kid.

Now look, $4 million is a grand slam for 99% of the population, and if he truly has that safely invested, then that's good - at least it's not down to zero.

But he should have multiples of that.

Culotta said on his show that he has it on good authority that Uncle Ray Ray invested a ton of J Rocks football money into gulf front beach property thru Miss, Alabama, and Florida. Culotta said Russell owns shite in Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, 30A etc

Supposedly it been a great investment and JaMarcus has easily 4x or more his money. Rumors are he doesnt have money troubles at all and it quite loaded thanks to Ray Ray.

Yep, he was always just a N****** to them. No, bro, they were paying you to be their franchise player and you effed it up.

He was dealt the worst possible hand as far as the NFL goes. He played for the Raiders when young and dumb Lane Kiffin was given the job way to early.

Imagine how arrogant Kiffin would have been back then, but he didn't know shite about running an NFL club. Then couple that with the coaches desire to draft Calvin Johnson. A mentally reduced AL Davis overruled the coaches and picked JaMarcus instead of Megatron.

I can't think of a worse situation to be put into as a slightly immature young qb. The coaches didn't want him and disagreed with the pick. The Raiders at that time were probably the worst landing spot for JaMarcus.

*Insert Charles Dutton fist pump gif from Rudy.*

Good on Uncle Ray if true.
