I just don't watch much college baseball outside of LSU period.
But I gotta say if I did, I'd prefer the small-ball to the old 5-hour 21-14 games of the 90's with juiced up kids hitting homers off bat handles.
I just cant stand small ball, especially when it's overdone. I understand in some situations, especially NOW, it's useful. If Stevenson is up and there's less than 2 outs and a guy is on first or second...BUNT by all means. However, if Bregman gets walked as a leadoff guy, asking Katz behind him to bunt him over is about the dumbest decision on earth.
I really miss the power from the old bats. Sorry, but the high scoring games is what college baseball so much different from MLB games. MLB games are just...boring. They are slow, low scoring pitcher fests. People say the new bats make games more exciting because there's a lot more 3-2 type games...yes, it's closer games going by runs, but a 2 run lead today feels like a 4 or 5 run lead using the old bats anyways.
With the old bats it created uncomfortable leads of 4, 5, 6, hell 8 runs. That's what made it so exciting. It was definitely completely unfair to the pitching, but hey, it sure as hell was edge of seat baseball in a NON-frustrating way like the new bats create.
To me, the 1 and 2 run games of today are more just frustrating baseball to watch more than exciting like with the old bats and even 5-6 run leads with those.

There's talk of changing the ball. We'll see if that happens. I hope it's a main talking point in the CWS. We'll tire of hearing it, but I think it will be best for the game.
I think we will change to the MLB baseball soon.It supposedly WILL fly a little further than the current college baseball will. I'd like to see the hard numbers behind it though like we see with the 3-5mph difference in ball exit speed from the BESR bats to the BBCOR bats.

over the ridiculousness that was gorilla ball.
I loved gorilla ball - LSU did pretty well during that era. I'd rather watch that any day over this small ball crap. But then again, maybe I'm not a real baseball fan.

No MLB team plays west coast small ball. That's not baseball.

BS
If we won that way, only an idiot would care.
Would you care?
I'd be shocked if we won more games by bunting our best hitters whenever possible

I think the main balk at it might be the lowered seams, so pitchers will struggle early on. Will see a lot of flat breaking balls, etc. Could add to offense on that alone.

Well, agree to disagree. I personally like watching it and don't find it boring.

frick this current style, something has to change to bring more excitement back to the game.

I really don't think CSF would be bunting guys with 600+ or close to 600 slugging pct that often...guys like Bregman and Katz...or even Ibarra for that matter. Maybe they would...but I doubt it. They just don't build their team with a lot of sluggers.

this is the key- if baseball wants to grow its fanbase, your average baseball fan wants to see offense. Towering home runs, hard hit balls in the gap, etc. Baseball won't develop new fans with small ball, and they know this.
See: the revitalization of baseball during the Sosa/McGwire HR race, Bonds' epic year, etc.

Maybe they changed their mindset completely for the tournament to just simply pressure constantly by putting RISP because they honestly didnt bunt A TON in the regular season. Maybe they just overdo it when they have their top pitchers on the mound, that was certainly the case from what I saw last night.

Instead of bunting, I'd just like to see us be more aggressive on the basepaths. More straight steals, hits and run, etc.
Teams like Vandy put a ton of pressure on opposing pitchers by doing this. Didn't they have 100+ steals on the season or something like that?
Also, with a hit and run or steal it keeps you out of the DP.
