Yep watched that season from the student section. Good times.
Same here. My sophomore year. The big debate all year was between the people who thought Garry James was better (because he was a 5 * recruit) and should be starting vs. the folks who recognized Dalton Hilliard for being one of the most exciting running backs in LSU history.
Hilliard didn't get the recognition that he should have 'cuz Auburn had some freshman that year that was even better.

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE to see a replay of that FSU game.
Dust off your VCR tapes and find that one. ABSOLUTELY THE COOLEST SCENE EVER: Oranges raining down out of the thick fog on Dalton Hilliard every time he scored.
Anybody?

The great Willie Gault 100 yd TD vs Tenn. was particularly maddening and forced that tie! Remember was the fastest 100 yd return I ever heard at the time!
i was there and it was the biggest deflation i had had with lsu football up to then. (curley hallman provided more and larger ones later). imo, then and now, it was dumb to kick to him. our d would have stopped them.

Gregg Dubroc and Eric Kittok were friends of mine from New Orleans on that team. Great guys. The only game I went to that year was Tulane because I was away at college. Still remember losing a bet to a dude in my dorm who took Nebraska in the Orange Bowl. Great season, though, and I think it renewed a lot of people's passion for LSU football after some lean years.

LSU's 499th win was vs Florida so with a struggling Tennessee team coming to town the next week it was assumed that would be #500.
A bar in Tigerland, across from the Fred's parking lot by the traintracks, called Scarlett O'Hara's had some "LSU's 500th win LSU vs Tennessee Oct 9, 1982 I was there !" t-shirts they were selling before the game.
Somehow Johnny Majors got hold of one and on the front page of the Knoxville paper the next day he and Gault were holding it up.

And then we flushed them down the toilet by losing to state and Tulane.

John Bond could not be stopped.

Bond owned LSU like few others.

Wasn't Tim Parenton from Jesuit Bond's backup that year? Of course, Mickey went on to play at LSU but I'm airly certain that Tim went to Moo U.

Oh haaaail yeah! My sophomore year.
The Dalton and James Gang
Destroyed Rice and Oregon State - James and Hilliard dominated.
'Eye of the Tiger' song released by Survivor
After Hilliard goes 50 yards on a screen pass in Gainesville, Musberger announces 'We have a new star' in 24-13 win over Gators.
Ole Miss held to -50 yards rushing in 45-8 domination.
Our fraternity took a road trip to Legion Field - saw the 20-10 whipping of Alashama. Bama - 5 yards rushing and ZERO first downs in 1st half. TGBFTL and LSU fans stayed in end zone partying for 30 minutes.
Nov. 1982
LSU - Florida State. Winner to Orange Bowl.
Not an orange left in BR - all in DV.
Maybe the loudest Pre-game in DV history.
LSU student dresses up like 'Seminole' with spear - Mike chases him, breaks spear over knee -student section goes BERSERK.
Last play of first half - Risher to Martin post pattern - 28 yard TD in SEZ.
Hilliard scores on scintillating 50 yard catch and run - gets hit with oranges in NEZ.
Herman Fontenot catches halfback pass for TD from Hilliard in SEZ
Risher throws 70 yard bomb to Eric Martin in NEZ.
Fog rolls in like 1959 Ole Miss ;)
Students went down on the field after the game and got on the goal post. Remember getting hit in the back with an orange :)
It was LSU's first NYD bowl invite since '74 Orange Bowl - after the game - some students were going CRAZY - throwing stadium seats, popcorn, oranges.
The smell of bourbon and oranges on the field and in the stands was everywhere.
LSU takes lead in Orange Bowl over highly-ranked Nebraska, loses 21-20.

One of my favorite Tiger teams ever
that 20-10 arse kicking in Bama may never be reproduced!!!!

What's odd now is that only one game was on network television -- the Miss State game. Now, 'Tigervision' had the Florida State game live, and maybe Alabama. I forgot if it was WAFB or WBRZ but one of them was able to work something out where the Florida game was shown live in Baton Rouge.
