At least we're getting an SEC storied about Warren Morris' home run and the rest of the 96 season.

People forget that he ran the then current All American (and future NFL journeyman with multiple Super Bowl rings) RB Kevin Faulk off to ride the pine before Collins broke his leg.

He didn't do that in four games against crappy teams. He did that by impressing the coaches more than Faulk could every day in practice.

How many Super Bowls did Faulk win?

Where are the now? Faulk full NFL pension living a great life; and Cecil the Diesel learning a trade in jail.

It's sad; but when you talk about greatness; character has to play an important part in that.

Had Cecil not gone to jail; he could have ended up like OJ Simpson.

No love lost for me on that end.

I really hope they explain, in this sec storied doc, that Warren Morris wasn't just some scrub. Seems like they always paint him as this player that wasn't that great and hit his only home run of the year. Truth be told, Warren Morris was our leading hitter throughout the NCAA Tournament. Believe he batted around .450 in the 96 tournament. He also went on to play on the US National team following that season and was runner up for MLB rookie of the year a few years later. He just happened to miss about 6 weeks of the season with a broken bone.

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but it's always kind of bothered me that Morris' worth as a player seems to be cheapened to make his home run a bigger story. It was still the most memorable play in college baseball history and may always be, but the main thing that's always brought up is that it was his first home run of the season.

Fwiw, Morris was our leading hitter in 1995 for the season with 8 home runs. Not a power hitter for that generation, but certainly not a slap hitter either.

Sorry, that's what I heard he was doing the last time I thought about him.

"Simpson was sentenced to nine to 33 years in Nevada state prison but was granted parole on some convictions in July, meaning he must serve at least four more years locked up."

Solid comparison!
