Miles is mediocre at best....nothing above that. So therefore he can't be underrated.

I take it English isn't your native language. If he's mediocre and most people think he's terrible, he's underrated.

No Richt... or any other coach losing a job because of a poor record. WTF sense does that make

His 90-27 record is third best in the country in winning percentage among active coaches (.769).

He is one of only nine head coaches in Division I-A history to record 60 or more wins in his first six seasons and 70 or more wins in his first seven seasons, one of only seven to reach 80 wins in his first eight seasons and 90 wins in his first nine seasons. Richt is also one of only six coaches in history to win two SEC championships (2002, 2005) in his first five years, and one of only five head coaches in SEC history to record four straight 10-win seasons (2002-05).

I don't want either.

Richt has pretty much the same problems and results as Miles. He is a better public speaker but aside from that there really is little difference and LSU and UGA have mirrored each other to an interesting extent lately.

Tuberville got more out of his players than their recruiting rankings would have predicted. At least until his last couple of years at Auburn. He seemed to let things slide there so that would concern me.

Personally, I'd go after Muschamp. A young, energetic defensive coach who learned under some of the best. While he has some risk his upside is certainly better than Richt and probably better than Tuberville.

I can think of two years that UGA was supposed to contend for the MNC according to pundits. 2004 should have happened and didn't. 2008- UGA ended up with a ridiculous amount of injuries all over the offense( but esp to the OL) and the defense. Even guys like Ellerbe who were able to come back later in the season were not even close to 100% and it showed. UGA had a couple of bad recruiting years back in the middle of the decade where a large percentage of the class either didn't make it on to campus and were escorted off campus fairly quickly- you saw the effects in 2006 definitely- his one mediocre year before this past year. If you look at the down years, and by down I mean 8-9 win seasons including the bowl, they always correlate with a QB transition. I am waiting to see what this year brings , but I think that Murray has a one-up on past RSF and FR QBs just because of the solidity of the OL.

Personally, I have no problems with Richt as a head coach. I have never understood the cries of he doesn't do well with what he is given as the teams UGA loses to are the ones with recruiting classes either equal or better than his. I do think the last two recruiting classes have really stocked the cupboard, though, and I do expect alot out of them. The blowouts over the last few years are directly related to poor defensive coaching which has hopefully been addresses and turnovers, mainly INTs, which have hopefully been addressed as well, if nothing else with the graduation of Cox and even Stafford, who along with all his positive attributes threw more than a few bad INTs.

IF...and I say IF...something were to happen; I'd love for LSU to make a run @ Gary Patterson.

Second, I see a lot of you say "Richt, probably not. Tuberville though I would say yes". Why? What in the world would lead you to that conclusion?

We have a lot of fans who judge coaches based on how much they are impressed with coaches; they judge coaches as how much they win relative to the strength of the conference and schedule and the roster they have on hand. See, just succeeding isn't the goal to some of these people. They don't respect some coaches because some coaches don't compete in the SEC, or their wins aren't impressive because the strength of schedule isn't strong while having good athletes. It's fairly bizarre.

So, these people have an affinity for coaches who do the most with the less against the best. The notion is that Tubs never had the creme de la creme on his roster so to them, he's done more than alot of coaches with less.

this would be an upgrade, he's a hell of an offensive coach, & has been solid at georgia. only 3 times he failed to win 10 games.

another upgrade. tuberville would thrive at lsu with the recruiting here, nobody to compete with.

i would choose all 3 over miles, & patterson at tcu, & peterson at boise st

When you look around the coaches that usually seem to do the best are either:

1) the ones just coming into their prime and moving up the ladder - either moving up from a coordinator position like stoops from fla to ou - or moving from a lesser program to a better one (saban to lsu from msu, meyer to fla from utah, tressell to osu from ysu)

2) coaches with longevity at a program - osborne, bowden, carr, fullmer, brown

so with that in mind I'd say Richt is a fine coach but I'd prefer LSU to look at a Gary Patterson or maybe Muschamp first (if Les were to actually merit firing - that's yet to be determined).

It can happen the other way around I'm sure - but the only recent guy I can think of who lost his prior job and then won a NC in college is Pete Carroll

That said, I'd be blind to say there's no chance of us going 8-4 or worse and potentially telling Miles to hit the road

You morons never stop. He doesn't even get a whiff of firing at 8-4.

He could probably go 3-9 and he would get a lecture to clear house and hire new coordinators.

You chuckleheads really are unhinged.

Richt:

He's a hell of an offensive coach when he has a David Greene. When he has an inexperienced QB he struggles on offense (kinda familiar). In addition his defenses have underperformed badly lately. UGA gets talent very similar to LSU. Recent records:

2006 9-4
2007 11-2
2008 10-3
2009 8-5

Is that good enough for the LSU fan base? I doubt it. Change being owned by Florida into being owned by Bama and he wouldn't survive long in Baton Rouge.

I live in the middle of Georgia and follow the Dawgs second to only LSU (with the Dawgs I usually hope for a loss). My friends here are Dawg fans and they are mostly pretty disgruntled with Richt at this point. Lately his teams have been undisciplined with a lot of penalties. He makes his share of boneheaded decisions and has a problem with gameday management. When it comes to press conferences I'll give him a 9 to Miles's 3 but aside from that they really are not that different. This is not really intended as a defense of Miles but if we make a change then I want to try for a homerun hire and that certainly is not Richt.
