Wilton Speight won’t play his final season of college football at Michigan.

Speight opened the last two seasons as Michigan’s starting quarterback, but announced Sunday that he will transfer. Speight is a redshirt junior this season, so he will be a fifth-year senior in 2018 wherever he lands. As a graduate transfer, he will be immediately eligible.

Speight became the team’s starting quarterback in 2016. That season, Speight started 12 games and threw for 2,538 yards, 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions while completing 61.6 percent of his passes.

The Wolverines opened won nine straight to open the 2016 season. In those games, Speight threw for 2,053 yards, 15 touchdowns and just three interceptions while completing 64.5 percent of his passes, but he struggled mightily down the stretch.

Given the amount of returning defensive talent next year, I wouldn't be opposed to adding an experienced grad transfer to an offense that will have a lot of question marks. Not sure Speight is much of an impact player though.

Would be a good add for depth, but I figure he would transfer somewhere he is a lock to start.

Adding Speight woudnt be a vote against Brennan. I think Speight is worth getting on campus and seeing if he can win the job in position that we will lack any meaningful experience.

Brennan is more talented than Speight. Speight has the limitations of Etling without the game management ability

I'm not necessarily sold on Brennan being the savior. Maybe he is, maybe he isn't.

I'd rather Brennan or Narcisse work out for us and provide some longer term stability at the position going forward. But at the same time, the defense should be really really good next year but the offense currently looks like a rebuild with holes at QB, RB and WR. I wouldn't be against a grad transfer if it's the right fit.

Havent followed him that closely, but I get the vibe that I wont like him as much as a team player as I did Etling. Seems like he could do more harm than good, getting in Brennan and Narcise's way.

If he’s open to competing for time, he’s a take. We need the experience/depth.
