What is the definition of a perfect LSU Season for younger fans?
12-0, win the SECCG, win the BCS NC, finish 14-0 and fire the Coach, because he didn't do it right.

Realistically, after last year, 9-4 should be par this year. 10-3 or better should be considered a great season (among the best ever).
LSU fans are incredibly spoiled and have terrible memories. Many look at me as though a penis is growing out of my forehead when I say, "LSU has only had 10 win seasons in:
1908 (10-0) Wingard
1958 (11-0) Dietzel
1961 (10-1) Dietzel
1987 (10-1-1) Archer
1996 (10-2) Dinardo
2001 (10-3) Saban
2003 (13-1) Saban
2005 (11-2) Miles
2006 (11-2) Miles
2007 (12-2) Miles
and if we do it in 2009, that will make 11 total (out of 117 seasons), of which Miles will have 4, Dietzel 2, Saban 2, Archer 1, Dinardo 1 and Wingard 1.
As it is, Miles already has 3 out of 10.
In fairness we had a lot of 9 win seasons under the 10 and 11 games per year format that would be 10 win seasons today under the 12 game format.

11-2 with all the deficits we have personnel-wise, the uber tough schedule and the residual effects of last year would make me happy.
That said, I really, really, really want to win our remaining games.
Watching the SECCG and the Tigers not being in it, is UNBEARABLY difficult.

Only if the loss is to Bama or UF.
I would be a little disappointed if we beat Bama only to lose to Ole Miss or Arkansas and miss out on a SECCG appearance.
I wouldn't be that upset though because I support the team.

Dude ANY DD win season is a success!!!
You ask ANY program across the country and they would kill for an ending like that...
Sooo the answer to your question is YES!

Be satisfied...NO
Be a successful season...YES
Never stop dreaming, but use reality to judge results.

If our only 2 losses come to the #1 & #2 teams in the country, then hell yeah, I would be happy. Even though I still don't think this team has played all the way to it's potential, I would still be happy and be looking forward to what should be a NC run in 2010.

Going into the season, I thought 9-3 is about what we should expect of this team (par). I would say we're on course to exceeding. I'm not going to count the SECCG or bowl game, because those can honestly go either way.
I would be a bit disappointed at this point if we don't make it to 10-2. However, we have a pretty stout schedule ahead of us still - Bama, Ole Miss, and arKansas. We should beat Ole Miss and Arky, but probably lose to Bama. I'm assuming the La. Tech is a 'W'.
What would actually suck more to me is to beat Bama and then lose one of the other 2, letting Bama still go on the the SECCG.
That would suuuuck!
BTW, go Ducks! (except they'll probably leap us now).

Ace, u do realize the # of games played each season has increased over the years (hence Miles having the most ten win seasons)

Hell yes, I'd take it. After living through the archerhallmandinardo debacle who wouldn't?

After the Chic-Fil-A bowl last year, where the offense and QB looked very good, I had hopes of LSU representing the West in the CCG, and hopefully winning. After the start to this year, and reality sinking in that the team is not preforming to my expectations is disappointing. So to answer your question knowing where we are and how we have looked, I would be happy with an 11-2. Disappointed yes, but happy.

You may be happy with 11-2 but 4 total losses are in the future.
Posted on 11/1/09 at 3:56 pm to AlaTiger
I expected 11-2 at the start of the season, so yes.
call it high expectations, but I would have found 3 or more losses a cause for concern with the amount of talent on this team.

And I don't disagree with that comparison, but they weren't as common as the 10s, ironically - even giving an honorable mention to the great 1936 and 1946 Bernie Moore coached 9-1-1 teams, and the 1962 9-1-1 team coached by Mac, we only had 9 or wins versus only one loss (other than the 10+s I listed earlier) in '36, '46, '62, and '69. We had 9-2 seasons in '37 and '59. All of the other 9 win seasons (and there aren't that many) are in 12 game seasons.

LSU played it's first 10 game season in 1907. There was a relative amount of variation from as few as 6 games (a 1-5 showing by LSU) in 1910, to as many as 11 (a 7-2-2 effort) as early as 1934. While the rule was 9 or 10 games, through about 1945, 11 games is arguably the rule from 1946 through 1969. During that span, LSU played 11 game seasons 15 times, 10 game seasons 8 times, and a 9 game season only in 1947. This is further skewed by the 1969's team (justifiably) declining a Bowl bid, thus voluntarily playing 10 games instead of 11 (and the last LSU team to play only 10 games).
Beginning in 1971, every LSU team played either 11 or 12 games until 2001, which was the first LSU team to play 13 games (finishing 10-3, or equivalent to about a 8.5 - 2.5 season of 11 games). The 2003 team was the first team to play 14 games (13-1, or equivalent to about a 10.2 - 0.8 season of 11 games). The 2007 team was the second LSU team to play 14 games (12-2, or the equivalent to a 9.4 - 1.6 season of 11 games).
And 11-2 is roughly equivalent to a 9.3 - 1.7 season of 11 games.
