I agree, as even with say Florida's post back-to-back title rosters, and it's mediocre(by UF standards) results, it is a relatively deep roster, with highly recruited ballers, of prototypical hgt, wgt, natural position players, with great if not very raw talents, etc..

The bluebloods like UF(relatively nouveau riche like their Football hardware hauls), UNC, Duke, UCLA, etc..even with their "reload/letdown squads" by their fanbase's expectations, have an embarrassment of riches compared to the mere mortal programs.

I'll never say never, but 4* and 5* kids will not choose LSU in an half-packed PMAC, over a full blueblood program/arena..even if it is puny Cameron Indoor..let alone a Carrier Dome or Rupp Arena.

Just look at the frenzy Pearl is creating at the huge Thompson-Boling arena, where it rarely since built, had an Ernie and Bernie Show, few Don Devoe squads, and Allen Houston games, to fill it.

It takes buzz to get the best ballers..like Tigerstadium or The Box.

Probably not. there is always an outside shot though.

LSU is not known as a basketball power school and most really good recruits would rather go to a Duke, UK, NC, or some other school that can get them the national attention that LSU can not offer them.

But there is always a chance.

doubtful. really don't care though as long as baseball and football keep winning.

LSU just isnt a basketball school so it's unlikely.

Did anyone think we'd win 2 national championship's in football in a 5 yr span?
Or that the saint's would go to the super bowl?

who thought florida would win back to back basketball title's?

We're due for a run of our own!

In the late 80's UF had never even won an SEC title. Their program took off with the hiring of Billy D. Anything is possible with the right coach.

That's exactly my point. I think the right coach is in place. Just gotta let him do his thing and see how it sort's out. I think we'll be in the thick of it again next year.

When I attended LSU from '68 to '72 we never thought we would ever win one in baseball. Hell, in those days, we were lucky to have 50 people at a baseball game. When I was a freshman and soph. at LSU the basketball games in the AG Center were packed due to The Pistol. Back then, LSU was never thought of as a baseball school. Anything can happen in the world of sports.

Hiring a NC caliber HC, assembling enough 4* & 5* Parade talent(and make no mistake about..this is what it takes to cut down NCAA nets)..

There is no one recipe for hiring a "national championship caliber" coach. No one could have ever predicted Billy Donovan would win a national title at Florida with a limited history of basketball success. Donovan recruited the perfect storm of talented players who were the children of star athletes and thereby financially secure enough to stick around three years and develop into a cohesive unit. Donovan has not come close to matching those accomplishments since. His NCAA history prior to 2006 was one of repeated upsets losses to much lower seeds.

There are many young coaches at mid major schools who look dapper in a three piece suit and seem to have what it takes only to falter. In the final analysis it always starts with the players. The coach who can sign enough big time recruits is along ways toward the title.

You are at best a contender, that will only rarely flirt with the Conn, Syr, Nova, Gtown, UNC, Duke, Ky, Fla, Lville, MSU, Oh St, Ind, Pur, Ill, Kan, Tx, Az, UCLA, etc..every few senior-laden teams

Interestingly LSU is a respectable 7-9 since 1999 against the non SEC schools listed.

IDK. Brady blew our real good chance when we had that shite ton of BR talent as a core.

True, t20, but also six years prior to the back-to-back NCAA titles of 2006 and 2007, Donovan and UF went 5-0 before Izzo's Cleaves and Co beat them in the 2000 Finals.

And most hoops junkies, yourself included, could see BD was sorta special, from 1987 Providence player days, and later his stint as Pitino's top young disciple, before breaking out at Marshall to get his HC career started. Whether or not he was gonna be the star he became, only God knew. But, he sure looked a future top tier candidate, one that would make tourneys and win some conference crowns, especially at the climbing platform of UF sports.

As the platform that is UF Hoops, logically, when elevating each decade of recent, with Sloan, then Kruger's Final Four, then Foley as AD, projected somewhat onward and upward. UF's best eras in Football and Baseball, also in the last twenty years.

You raised some excellent points. I was just commenting tht it is difficult to select a "national championship caliber" coach because no one know how a coach will perform once he lands a major conference post. In the SEC we have had coaches like Stan Heath, Billy Gillespie, Dennis Felton, Jeff Lebo, Buzz Peterson, Kevin Stallings who had nice resumes but did not even win SEC titles and had little success in the post season. Now we have Mark Fox, Trent Johnson, Anthony Grant, Andy Kennedy, John Pelphrey and Bruce Pearl all with the right pedigree that would lead you to expect great things from their programs. Let's see how many of them really deliver.

Trent already won a SEC title already. I think we finally have a good HC that will take us to a promised land.

I don't think we'll see a basketball championship in my lifetime.

But then, I used to say that about football.
