It was the 1st Home SEC game every year. It was advertised as such for a while, but once Admin figured out they could only get half the fans or so to participate, they game up trying.

It's not a tradition but it isn't a dumb idea, it was just an effort to get people to be more participatory again. I always liked the wear purple or wear gold themes but it is not that big a deal either way to me. My wife loved all that and so did my daughter. I think the female demographic is ultimately the target of those sorts of things even if they can be enjoyable as a male.
