More Trindon Holliday. Holliday should be on the field for 30% of offensive/special teams plays. He is just as useful without the ball in his hands, because it drives opposing defenses crazy.

The wild tiger with Murphy needs to be axed. Another reason we didn't win the Bama game.

I think Dickson will have a great year. JJ looked to him and Toliver more than Lee or Hatch did.

Examples

-Trindon phased out almost entirely
-WR screens to Chris Mitchell
-Wild Richard Murphy
-not playing Terrance Toliver hardly at all until late in the season
-Overusing Charles Scott during the first half of the year until he gets so beaten up that he is averaging 1 yard a carry vs Ole Miss and gets shut down by a horrible Arkansas defense
-Never going back to the Scott FB, Keiland TB offense after having success with it
-Never going back to the 4 DEs pass rush after having success with it
-Playing Chad Jones at 9 positions so he is confused and letting Curtis Taylor continue to start after quitting on the team midway through the year
-Danny McCray playing at nickelback instead of safety

And the number 1 Miles mis-use of talent will always be his benching of players who make big plays (see Charles Scott vs UK, KW vs AU 2007) apparently done so as not to offend starters who are being outperformed.

All Miles needs to do this season is take out a lounge chair for the games sit back relax and supervise. He can let Crowton and Chavis do all the actual work and occasionally put in his 2 cents. If he does that we have a great season.

Last year sucked. Everytime JL throws a pick six you think theres now way he does that again only to realize he can and will. Our defense was horrible. Thank God each season starts 0-0.

For one, most of those guys were true freshman, so it's ridiculous to critique on that.

Second, you didn't name stuff that was much worse than any of that (except for the CJ part). IE Earl Lanes ridiculous DL rotations.

What an informative and elaborate post! Who needs Carl DuBois when we have you, Rob!?

I had almost forgotten about those two. We broke those out vs. South Carolina. After that, I thought everything was gonna be alright and we would finish the season strong. But we never saw this stuff again. Couldn't figure out why, either.

Why do people think that 4 DE package was successful? We used it alot after the SC game, it just did absolutely nothing.

How so? Everyone in the fricking stadium knows he's getting the ball when he's in the backfield. He can't pass block, so Crowton doesn't even bother with play action.

He's never shown that he has reliable hands. If he did, I'm sure he'd be a full time punt returner and get 3-4 bubble/slip screens a game at WR.

He is what he is, which is a potential All-American kickoff returner and a change of pace RB. Nothing more, nothing less, And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Not true:

We used it quite a bit in the few games following SC but exclusively in 3rd down pass rush situations. But as soon as the opposing teams had figured it the coaches quit on it instead of improvising.
The pass rush was predictable and uncreative last year. I'd love to see some stunts and pro-style zone blitz packages this year - like the ones we had under Saban or Bo.

Please list the number of times a true freshman started early in the season, played flawlessly and had success with it in a major program in the SEC. Even future HOF Peyton had his troubles and Julio was a man among boys.

What idiot DC put Chad Jones at Strong Safety instead of Free Safety last year.

What makes Chad Jones a free saftey? Every saftey in the NFL his size is a strong safety.

Chad Jones can play either SS or FS IMO.

I think he is actually more of a SS, but with our personnel he has to play FS.

If Loston is absurdly good as we expect and CJ stays for his senior year, then we need to play CJ at SS and CL at FS.

Chad Jones can make a great free safety. The guy is tall and has great range. Why are people forgetting that he's a great athlete just bc Malveto and Pelini expected him to be able to cover 180 lb WRs in the slot?

The fact that Chavis has Brooks at strong safety and Jones at free safety tells you everything you need to know. CJ is perfect for FS bc he will clean up any mistakes back there. I can't tell you how many times Dwyer or that little RB broke free in the GTech game, only for CJ to tackle him and stop the big play. That's just what you want back there.

I don't know why we spend so much money on Les when everybody on this board is a better coach than him.

He has admitted he did not handle Jarret properly. He needed protecting more after mistakes. Maybe run the ball more.
I think this is another reason these things can't be considered in a vacuum. There were times (too many times) when we couldn't afford to do this because the defense would keep giving up TDs right and left. If you know the other team is most likely going to add on another TD every time they get the ball, you can't really afford to go conservative.

Of course it works in reverse to some extent, too. If the offense isn't moving consistently and/or is turning the ball over, the defense wears down and becomes less effective. Last year was just a shitty convergence of bad luck, bad timing and bad things.
